any help appreciated

i’ve had my hamster since about the end of february this year he’s male, ever since i’ve had him he’s shown signs of stress i’ve upgraded his cage to bucatsate gave him deeper bedding a big wheel multiple hides substrate forage sand bath literally everything i’ve been told i spot clean regularly and yet he is always jumping/scratching at the wall to get out i got him a playpen so he could run around but he did the same thing in that just freaking out all the time sometimes he is calm but at least once a day he seems scared or stressed i hardly touch him he lets me stroke his back lightly but he has bit once i never go from above he takes food from my hand but other than he will not let me handle him i’m at my wits end i just feel guilty watching him like this even though i’ve tried literally everything i considered giving him up but my boyfriend doesn’t want to he keeps spending so much money on the hamster but nothing changes he looks healthy no bumps no wet tail if anyone can help i’d really appreciate it i’ve owned a hamster before and he was amazing i could hold him let him run around and he never seemed stressed (he probably didn’t even have it as good as my current hamster does and still seemed happier) i’m just so unsure on what to do
