Are the liberation missions well made or poorly designed? Any tips?

I’m struggling with the liberation missions heavily. Just got past the 3rd one. Is there ANY way I can view across the map? It’s weird that I’m supposed to think strategically without any idea of what the map has in store for me.

DQ9 or SMT4

I’m in the mood for a handheld JRPG. I’ve never played Dragon Quest 9 before but I’m a huge fan of the series. I’m a pretty big SMT fan and I started 4 and got about 6 hours in. I dropped it for a few months and picked it back up and now I’m lost.

Which one would you say is the overall better game? Should I try to pick up my old SMT4 save file or restart?
