A night at the House of Bamboo

Finally made my way up to Camarillo and checked out the house of bamboo.

The owner had a nice chat with us as we waited for our table to become available and told us all about the history of the bars creation.

His grandfather was a scout aboard the b-52 Rum Hound in WW2. Unfortunately his plane was shot down over the pacific and they crashed in the water near a tropical island, where a tribe of head hunters took them in.

They lived in make shift structures they could make with what was available, bamboo. And they referred to them as the house of bamboo.

The bar is filled with wonderful artifacts, art, and of course some amazing little light shows! One such show even has you serenaded by a blow fish!

The drinks and bartenders were great. Highly recommend checking it out if you can!

Another Strongwater visit!

Sunday evening was pretty quiet at my favorite tiki bar: Strong Water.

I was sad to see their Vietnamese stew go off the menu, but the drinks were still top notch.

I visited an old favorite of mine, the Tales from the Black lagoon, and then shifted gears to the pacific coast hurricane. Both fantastic!

Greg took good care of us and let me sample the Uruapan on the back shelf. They also took care of my friend who is temporarily on an alcohol no-fly zone. She had already tried what was on the menu for no alcoholic so I asked them if they could make something new, they were happy to oblige and made some very tasty drinks.

As usual, hard to beat this Anaheim treasure.

Food was decent. Though, I wish I would have gone with the noodles, instead I went with the chicken katsu, which was very good, but not my favorite thing they’ve had.

Happy Friday! Loving the velvet art we picked up!

A lovely cocktail (beachbum’s own) on Friday evening. We recently found this lovely velvet artwork and just had to buy it. Hoping to finally build a Bar top and mount our art for our enjoyment here at home.

I had been once before but a friend was in town who hadn’t. So we trekked down to Hermosa Beach, CA for my birthday and had a wonderful time!

The service was so much better this time around! I gave their ‘44 Mai tai a try and was pleasantly surprised and then went on to their Jet Pilot which also was quite on point.

The Ghost Ship Grog was a bit of a let down after the other two drinks, but overall it was a great experience this time around.

The first time the service was pretty bad and the drinks were quite mediocre, but I think that was due to first week jitters.

Greetings! I got some bad news. The mechanic at the dealership diagnosed that the piston rings had worn and I was burning through oil and that the recommended course of action is to replace the engine.

Is 10k reasonable for such a service? It’s about half what the car was priced at when I bought the car and that seems excessive.

Additionally, is there another service you Might recommend given the circumstances?

I live in the greater LA area in California if that helps at all.

Thanks all.
