Does anyone have theories about the show, characters, the Island, or other elements that, despite being disproven, you still find valid?

I'll preface this request by saying I have no mods installed.

After the recent update for Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition on Steam, it's been consistently crashing every time I begin a new game. The game will startup, allow me to select the mode, map, and the rest, but as soon as I start the game it crashes to desktop.

There's no bug report. There's no warning. As soon as I begin a new game, it crashes.

I've never had trouble with this game for the many years I've played it until the recent update.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I may fix this?
