There a few times like this when I think the meta humor isn't done as well as it usually is
I feel like this bit of pointing out how you've encountered multiple optional difficult bosses with a cool theme, didn't really land, and that this segment would've been better off without this joke.
And besides this moment, there's also Battat referring to the shared motif of the Superbosses as the "Battat motif," and also the "Flowery told me" moment. In my opinion, this kind of humor is overplayed in these particular scenes and takes me out of the game. Ralsei's explanation of the battle UI being interrupted by the "Flowery told me" joke almost felt like the kind of bad joke you'd hear in an MCU movie.
I know the game's gonna be more serious from here on out, but I wish these particular jokes were delivered differently or just not there. I think Toby is referencing the reception of and reactions to the game a little too much, and it recently doesn't land as well as jokes like referencing the tsundere cactus line from Undertale or referencing the broken jukebox from Undertale, or the "sealing the drinking fountain" joke, which are funnier and don't take you out of your immersion.
No, he wasn't right
I'm kind of surprised so many people say Flowery was right in this conflict (Maybe I'm missing something).
It IS somewhat selfish of the gang to want to seal the Flower Kingdom fountain for the sake of keeping Castle Town, but it's not like that's the sole reason they intend to seal it. Castle Town can house almost any Darkner, while Flower Kingdom is only inhabitable for Darkners that belong in it. And as Ralsei has said several times, the more fountains there are, the greater the risk.
And even if Asgore was content just living in the fantasy that Flowery and the other flowers create for him, it wouldn't last because the flowers would die in time. They need sunlight, and they'd be living in a place darker than dark (Unless the idea was to seal the fountain whenever they had to be taken care of, and then make the fountain again?)
When I was playing, I never once doubted the Fun Gang's wish to keep Castle Town and seal Flower Kingdom, because keeping Castle Town was just... objectively the better choice. I don't think Susie having doubts and considering the idea that Flowery was right, was bad writing. But I'm surprised that many people in real life thought he was right. Guess Flowery was just that charismatic.
I know Chapter 5 was supposed to be the silly before the storm, but it's still an odd choice
Fans and Toby himself saying that this chapter was for us to look away from the darkness for a bit and have fun one last time doesn't make its placement in the plot any less strange for me.
Because Chapter 3 already did that. It was already the really goofy adventure preceding the darkness. And then in Chapter 4, we face that darkness head-on, we encounter the Knight multiple times, we see much more of the Prophecy than Ralsei has told us, the gang's friendship gets tested, we get a glimpse of the terror of the Roaring, and we learn that saving the worlds will come at a price that the heroes don't want to pay.
But then Chapter 5 for the most part doesn't follow up on that. The Knight only appears at the very end but does less than it does in Chapter 3 (There wasn't even much tension in Asgore's kidnapping because we already saw the Knight do that in a much more intense scene that also was after we met them the first time and fought them), and we don't get into Susie's dread of the final prophecy, she and Ralsei don't discuss it at all except for in the praying scene.
All the stuff with Flowery and the other Flowers was good, but I feel like their part of the story should have been before the Sanctuary/Prophecy/Titan part of the story. Chapter 5 felt so disconnected from 4 and I thought it would just grow on me in time like Chapter 3 did, but the more I think of Chapter 5 as a follow-up to 4, the more frustrated I am with it.
Why did this dumbass just let that happen
So when the Knight is flying away with Asgore, they realize that they're headed for a wall and they have like 3 business days to stop or fly upwards instead or something, but they... don't. They fly face-first into the wall anyway for some reason.
It can't be that they have trouble slowing down when they're going fast, because in Chapter 4, when Susie tries to hit them with 3 Rude Busters while not being too far away from them, they quickly dodge all of it and stop in their tracks right after.
Is the Roaring Knight a fucking moron?
Gaster when you ask him how he would like his steak
Powerless Homelander vs Season 1 Hughie
Hughie knows Homelander is powerless. Homelander knows it's Season 1 Hughie, who isn't as gutsy or strong as Season 5 Hughie. Takes place in the White House. They start with their bare hands but can use stuff around them. Fight until one's dead. Who wins?
