My 16 year old iMac

It used to be my VMware fusion virtual machine powerhouse. Now I mostly use it for iTunes to play music. Most browsers now refuse to update and say my OS is too old. The only available modern browser left that is still actively updating is Firefox with their ESU.

Outside spigot vacuum breaker

There was a leak from the vacuum breaker ( shown here installed almost pointing down ) and to be honest , until recently I had no idea what that was. Initially , I thought that was another tap I could use for the hose and it was just a cap covering the tap.

After trying several caps I realized it is a vacuum breaker and they needed to come from the spigot maker otherwise it won’t fit nicely.

Anyways , I think I know the exact part now so I can get it.

But as I was researching all this, I realized the spigot was installed wrong and that the vacuum breaker needs to point up.

This spigot has been there 15-20 years this way and I have not experienced any water back flow back to my house nor there was a frozen pipe. Of course I am reading all about vacuum breakers 15 years later.

Since I don’t have any issue (other than replacing the vacuum breaker for the leak), and no other apparent problem for this long , do I need to call a plumber to have it adjusted or just leave it ?

Really, what kind of sham and scam ComEd is running with this energy star rebate program?

First of all, I realized they do not cover refrigerators and dishwashers. Ha, that's half the kitchen. I don't think they cover water heaters too. Again it looks like a big chunk of your normal everyday household appliances they are not covering.

Here's the other part of the issue too. For decades I have been eyeing this rebate program whenever I buy new appliances (and believe me, nothing lasts over 6 years, every appliance breaks) and because I am budget conscious, I buy the cheaper appliances for replacement and here is the irony, the cheaper appliances normally do not earn the energy star logo.

So numerous times I get something new, I eagerly try and see if they qualify. Nope, not energy star. Finally I got an appliance that I paid a premium for (it's a higher end model) and ComEd does not cover that type of appliance.

I do not understand why people in charge of these programs, if they truly mean well, why do they put up all sorts of ridiculous barriers for people?

Forcing poor people to buy more expensive appliances (which they won't anyways), so a barrier to the true spirit of the rebate program. So no rebate paid for those situations.

Taking away half the kitchen's appliances for rebate eligibility. Come on. No rebates paid.

ComEd will rebate you for air purifiers and dehumidifiers, what a joke.

And lastly, today I called their customer service for clarification. It appears ComEd is funding a full-time call center just solely for rebate concerns and questions. How many calls and questions do they need to take if they simply just award the rebates that people want in the first place? Are they staffing the crew to tell people the answer is "No, the program does not fund this appliance".

Staffing a call center is serious money, that can go towards more rebate money. Seriously, do they even receive 100 calls a day? That can be accomplished by hiring someone full time to answer emails instead of staffing a call center.

Like I said, what kind of energy rebate sham is ComEd running?
