I finished Season 3, and now the dread of having no more Orville to watch sets in.

I am so glad I got told to watch The Orville by a friend of mine.

Season 3, WOW!

The storylines were all payoffs from the previous two seasons, and the movie length episodes delivered.

Brilliant writing, storytelling, I know if you’re in this subreddit you agree, but wow

I keep comparing it Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which has fallen off a cliff and turned into hot garbage.

The Orville Season 3 is the scifi I want. It’s fantastic.

Come on, Season 4!

Working my way through S3, just watched, “A Tale of two Topahs,” and, “Twice in a Lifetime,” and I was left teary eyed at both. Some of you said there were gut punches in S3 and you were right. This show is BRILLIANT, and in my mind blows away new Star Trek. Not even close. (Minor spoilers here)

When, “The Orville,” came out I thought, “this will be family guy in space. Pass” (I was so wrong)

I’ve read that when McFarlane pitched it to FOX they expected a comedy so as a result season 1 is very jokey, and for me the jokes detracted from the show’s otherwise great stories.

HOWEVER

With Season 2 McFarlane got full creative control and turned it into a serious scifi show that in my mind completely overshadows all the new Star Trek series.

Then Season 3 came, I’m a little over halfway through it, and it’s been one gut punch after another with brilliant writing, acting, and storylines.

The show manages to have individual episodes with their own plot line AND manages to do amazing character development while continuing storylines and themes started in season 1.

Last night I watched two episodes back to back and both had me teary eyed at the end for different reasons.

Good science fiction is supposed to make you think about current affairs through a future lens, and The Orville does it again and again.

For those that have seen them:

In, “A tale of two Topahs,” I was teary eyed at the hope it had. When Bortus told Topah, “you are perfect,” and then Captain Mercer let her sit in the captain’s chair to get underway, I thought, “This is amazing. This is great science fiction. Wow, wow, wow”

Right after that was, “Twice in a Lifetime,” and watching Malloy scream out the front door as Ed, Kelli, and Talla walked away with sad yet resolute faces at what they had to do, and Malloy desperate to stop them as his now wife and kids watched, scared, as he screamed with increasing desperation at his best friend:

“ED! ED! NO! DON’T DO THIS, ED! ED!” knowing full well he couldn’t stop was about to happen ripped my heart out, and stomped it into little pieces.

Watching this show and then comparing it to whatever clown shoes show Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has turned into doesn’t even compare.

Star Trek has turned into the gimmick of the week under its current management while The Orville is brilliant. Not just good, I can’t get over how thought provoking and moving it is.

The Orville is A++ if you’re into this type of stuff and ST:SNW was good in season 1 & 2 and in my opinion now has gotten awful.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? I love talking about good stories, and The Orville keeps me glued to every word and scene as its brilliant stories play out.

Word is Season 4 is about to get made and I hope that’s true.

I started watching The Orville 2 weeks ago and just started season 3 last night. I am in awe- I can’t believe I never saw this show until now. I came on Reddit to see if anyone was talking about it and I see I’m not alone 🚀

My friend told me I needed to see it because I have loved Star Trek my entire life.

He also told me, “Season 1 is jokey because FOX wanted comedy because Seth does comedy but S2 he gets more freedom to do what he wants” and HOLY SH*T this show is amazing

As a contrast, I’m watching the new season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the show has turned into a let down for me. The writing is gimmicky and weak.

Meanwhile, The Orville has made me emotional at times, and had me cheering for the crew in others.

The whole story arc of the Moclans and their same sex society as the women fight for freedom is brilliantly done.

The ball game made me do a spit take when Mercer “won” hahahahahaha. I was laughing my ass off.

If there is anything funnier than Bortus and Klyden getting addicted to cigarettes…. 🚬 lololol

Malloy in a Krill fighter, “Just a walk in the park, Kazansky!” and his Iceman mouth bite had me cheering during the battle with the Kaylons at Earth

Isaac’s character arc is nuanced and his suicide hit me pretty hard.

Over and over each new episode delivers great stories while the overarching themes in the show get explored more fully.

I’m 3 episodes into Season 3, and know I’m going to be bummed there isn’t more when I finish and damn I am hoping Season 4 happens

This show is light years better than whatever Star Trek has turned into, and I love Star Trek.

I also saw Adrianne Palicki saying she might not come back, and I want the whole crew back.

I know they all have lives and the spread out schedule made it hard but G-D The Orville is amazing.

Give me 7 seasons and some movies. I’m hooked.

Glad this subreddit is here because I am in love with this show.

I posted this 170 days ago; nothing has gotten better. Trump’s war with Iran sent the global economy spinning & everything is expensive. This subreddit has been pretty quiet- Is anyone actively buying right now, or you HODL’ing? What are people thinking/doing? You all still in this sub?

Look at what came in the mail

I lived in Clovis for a year and a few months after I left, The Man came to town and recorded “Clovis,” in the old Norman Petty studio where Buddy Holly recorded back in the day.

The gear in the studio is vintage and famous people always want to see it- especially musicians.

Can’t wait to fire this up tomorrow

Since joining this sub, I’ve had a meeting with the founder of an AI platform, and I have another meeting with a filmmaker tomorrow.

I know we’ve had haters here downvoting stuff but it seems like this sub is growing, and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has been open, friendly, and collaborative in spirit, and I’m looking forward to more.

I think this community will be powerful for us all in terms of connecting, collaborating, and innovating.

How about the rest of you? Are you finding this sub helpful?

Finally- anyone interested IRL meetups? I’m currently to in Chicago, going to spend the summer in St. Louis.

In my entrepreneurial life I’ve always found having a community of people in the same struggle to be powerful.

I’m glad to be here with you all 🚀

Here’s what I’m seeing- please correct me if I’m wrong:

I keep seeing people posting videos they’ve made with AI- because this subreddit is “AI filmmaking,” and they keep being downvoted to the point I’m seeing new ones with “0” Reddit karma- since they aren’t negative, I assume there is one person hanging out in our subreddit here purposely downvoting everything.

I keep upvoting them so they have at least, “1,” - why the f-k would someone auto downvote everything here?

IF this is happening, can the mods see it and boot this person?

It’s one thing if you have issues with a post but I find it hard to believe all these videos being shared by their creators deserves a downvote.

I’m excited to see what people are making and think this subreddit is a place for us all to talk and support each other; yet I think we have a hater in here.

I hope I’m wrong- what are you all seeing? And if one person is doing this, can we get a moderator to ban them?

To everyone creating videos- keep going and ignore the hater(s)
