Looking for some advice!

I’ve been feeding this cat for around two years now, and he’s slowly warmed up to me outside. Now he will follow me around the yard and sit in my lap.

I’m moving at the end of July and wanted to take him with me. I took him to the vet and set him up in his own room, and he does mostly well until dawn/dusk when he starts freaking out, trying to climb up the windows and scratching the glass. I’ve tried redirecting with playtime, but he just ignores it. I’m afraid he’s going to hurt himself (or damage the windows, one pane where he climbs has been cracked since we moved in). I’ve gotten very little sleep the past week except on nights where I let him stay outside.

He also won’t go to the bathroom at all indoors. I have a litter box with regular clay litter, and one with some sand from outside. He thinks they are fun to play in, but won’t actually use them. Sometimes when he’s freaking out, I think it’s because he needs to use the bathroom but doesn’t want to go indoors. The longest I’ve kept him inside is around 36 hours before I got worried he would get a UTI or something. Any advice on how I can encourage him to use the box?

I work 8-9 hours a day away from home so it’s also been a challenge balancing that with having a cat who needs more attention, on very little sleep. I feel overwhelmed and rethinking bringing him in, but I don’t want to give up too soon. There are other people in the neighborhood who feed him, but he spends so much time in my yard that I feel bad leaving him. Would he just be happier staying outside in his neighborhood?

Outdoor to indoor transition

Hi!! I have an outdoor/neighborhood cat who showed up to my house about two years ago. I’ve been feeding/bonding with him ever since. I never tried to bring him inside because I assumed he was a community cat, and he would only really show up in the evenings for food. Lately, he had been spending most of his time during the day in our back yard, lounging in the chairs. He was TNR’d shortly after he showed up originally.

We are moving away at the end of July, and it felt wrong to leave him behind at this point. He is very comfortable with me, and will sit in my lap when I’m outside, or follow me around while I do yard work. I took him to the vet for a checkup, he did great, and they sent me home with flea treatment and dewormer. The first two nights were rough, and I barely slept between his bursts of trying to break out of the house. I ended up letting him go back outside during the day because I was worried he would hurt himself while I was at work. I brought him back inside Friday night and he was peaceful all night and all day Saturday.

He did not, however, use the litter box. No bathroom activity at all, despite drinking a ton of water. This morning, he was very stressed, trying to scratch out the windows and pacing around the room. I tried to place him in the litter box, show him how to dig, but he just thought it was a fun spot to hang out. I have one box with regular litter and one with dirt/sand from outside. He got so stressed that I let him go outside, worried about a UTI or bowel impaction.

Besides some behavioral play issues (biting/scratching my hand too hard, I’m working on redirecting to toys), I feel like he was doing really well until his bathroom urge kicked in. Is there anything I can try to help him use the litter box?

Helppp!

I’m trying to decide what fabric I want in my living room! All the photos I’ve seen posted here look beautiful so I wanted to see if anyone has any opinions. In order is: Auburn, Army, and Field. I get lots of natural light during the day, and the swatch photos were taken in that part of the room.

Any experiences with the brushed knit fabrics? I’ve never come across something similar, so I’m curious how it feels for lounging?
