My metalhead friend revisiting Liberty

Hello everyone, how are you doing? So, recently, my best friend, the one you guys already know about, decided to give a try to the albums he didn't like when we were doing that whole journey through Duran Duran discography.

Liberty was the one I was pestering him the most to do, since in his own words "it's like a traumatic memory. I know it happened, I just can't remember any of it", and then I made that post about it you had to pick two songs, which ones it would be. He chose Hothead and Violence of Summer and I just couldn't grasp my head around it; it's not his style, not on an album with Serious.

And we were talking on WhatsApp about it, and since we are Brazilians, the translator got a bit wonky, pardon for any confusing sentences. The songs on the screenshots are Violence of Summer, Liberty and My Antarctica.

"This album is a Warren feat Duran Duran, because the only consistent thing about it is how great his guitars are. It's not a bad album per se, it's just all over the place. How can you have Serious and My Antarctica lumped with Venice Drowning? Still, between Liberty and RCM, Liberty all the way. I can see Hothead on my playlist, but not The Valley, you know?"

He listened to Paper Gods and RCM, but it was in person and I didn't remember to make annotations. But, he likes Paper Gods a bit more, because Butterfly Girl exists, but not enough to be a liked album. And RCM...it's not even worth it for me to say all the things he thinks about this album now. In the end, he will forever be an Arcadia fan.

Help finding a model

Hello everyone, how are you doing? So, I'm making a project for college and we are taking lots of forms and shapes from Kodak cameras, and we saw a beautiful one that was a baby blue color and had a beautiful leather strap around it, full of details. The camera was wider than it is taler, but my pair and I didn't save the picture (it was on Google) and we can't find it anymore, but we need the picture.

Does anyone know what model it was? I only remember the color and the leather thing.

It's a Sin - Japanese version

Hello everyone, how are you doing? I was reading the Literally book today for the first time and got intrigued by the mention of this version. They say that they like the Cantonese one by Danny Chen, but don't like the japanese one because they changed the lyrics too much. I can't find a single thing about it online. Does anyone know where I can find it?

"Point the Singer"

Hello everyone, how are you doing? So, I mentioned before, but I'm on college studying design and I like to make a silly experiment with my colleagues that don't know Duran Duran to "Point the singer". And it amuses me how no one, I mean NO ONE, gets it right.

First, I began with the Notorious cover. 90% of the time, people point to John since "He's in the front, my eyes go directly to him, he has a really strong face, he must be the singer". When I say that it's not him, not a single person points to Simon, but instead, to Nick. "He's in the middle, he wears makeup, he has the vibe of an 80s sex symbol that makes girls faint with his voice". The thing is, if you pay close attention, Simon is the only one looking at us, while Nick and John look away. But no one seems to pay attention to that, so I go to show 7RT cover. And it happens again.

"It must be the guy on the floor, he's right in the middle" referencing Nick, or "The one with the V on his shirt, red gloves, middle, it must be him, there's so much happening." Referring to John. The only answer that I got that didn't mentioned neither John nor Nick was a guy that pointed at Andy. "Sunglasses, chill position, he must be the front leader." Again, no one realizes that Simon is the only one in blue.

And it's all due to composition. He's tucked on the left corner on both theses covers and most people presume the singer in an album cover is either in a completely different pose (as in Nick on the floor on 7RT), in the middle, or the biggest focal point (as in John on Notorious). So, it doesn't matter that Simon is in a completely different color or the only one looking at us, when our eyes don't even look at him as the first element, since the composition does not makes him the most attention grabbing (unless, of course, you already know what you are searching for).

Then, I finish the experiment showing the debut cover and pointing to Simon on the other covers and it always triggers the same reaction "But why is he on the back on the other ones? If not for this one, I would never guess!" With the guy that pointed Andy even saying "I get it, compared with the other guys he's just a regular guy, I wouldn't want him on the front if I was the designer. This one here looks like a super model with a chin so sharp it could break stones, the other one has that effeminate/delicate thing from the 80s, while the singer just...exists. He's handsome, don't get me wrong, but there's nothing as striking as with the other ones. He could be wearing the sunglasses, it would make him stand out more."

I used to show Liberty instead of the debut, because not only Simon is in the middle, but in a different angle and the only one wearing white, and still, some people pointed to John. But in this case, I think is more a matter of how beautiful he is, and I can't blame them. Now, I only show this cover when it all ends to see if the composition thing was fixed, with them already knowing who Simon is. Most of the time, the answer is yes, but the guy that mentioned Andy (and was the most interested on my experiment anyway) even added "Is the girl's name Liberty? She looks so dislocated. It's seems as if she was a later addition to the picture, my attention is on her but not in a good way. Like, they added the album name and were like 'this looks way too empty, let's get a blonde girl, they sell well'. Her face doesn't help, either, it's almost as if she's lost and ended up on the photoshoot."

I think I did this experiment with more than thirty persons until now, and no one got it right. Well, maybe one day.

If you had to pick just two songs of each album, which ones would you choose?

I decided to ask this with two songs instead of one because it makes things a bit easier. I'm not counting here the tracks exclusives from other versions, because otherwise, it would be the only thing I would pick. My picks are:

Debut - Girls on Film, Friends of Mine

Rio - New Religion, The Chauffer

Seven and the Ragged Tiger - Shadows on Your Side, Seventh Stranger

Notorious - Skin Trade, Proposition

Big Thing - All She Wants is, Palomino

Liberty - Read My Lips, My Antarctica

Wedding Album - Breath after Breath, Ordinary World

Thank You - Lay Lady Lay, Perfect Day

Medazzaland - Michael You've Got a Lot to Answer for, Electric Barbarella

Pop Trash - Someone Else Not Me, Lady Xanax

Astronaut - Astronaut, Still Breathing

Red Carpet Massacre - Nite Runner, Box Full o Honey

All You Need is Now - Too Bad You're so Beautiful, Before the Rain

Paper Gods - Pressure Off, Butterfly Girl

Future Past - Invisible, Wing

Danse Macabre - Black Moonlight, Psycho Killer

Careless Memories animation

Hello everyone. I was watching my A Diamond in the Mind DVD and noticed that the animation that plays on the Careless Memories segment is not the same one that is found on the internet, the one that was made for the reunion shows.

On the A Diamond in the Mind, it begins with a white car being photographed by lots of people, it cuts to a party where Duran Duran are talking to people, then a fight erupts with two guys using guns. There's also a Godzilla like monster, an ovni with a blonde guy's clones speaking japanese. The animation looks way better than the Reunion one. Does anyone know where I can find this full animation?

Edit: Forgot to add the link to the A Diamond on The Mind segment

YT Music Recap

Just wanted to share my YT music recap since I found it amusing that although my most listened to album was Pop Trash (it always is), it's Liberty that appears on the most listened to songs. I'm slowly beginning to like Liberty more, to be honest.

Songs that have an esoteric vibe

Hello everyone, how are you doing? I'm trying to make a playlist that focus on the more esoteric/eerie vibe from the band, as in The Chauffer, Seventh Stranger, Winter Marches on, you get the ideia. I don't want to just put these three and So Red The Rose, so, what songs do you think fit this vibe?

"Please, don't tell me you don't see it"

I was talking with my friend yesterday (the one I made all those posts about) and he's still going really deep on the Duran Duran river. And so, he began to search every single thing that involves a member of the band, even if not directly. Since he loves metal and has punk friends, he is listening to Missing Persons so they can have something else to talk to. And then, he simply says to me

"Y'know, Warren looks a lot like Roger"

The only thing I could say was a loud "WHAT"

"Just take a look at how he is in Missing Persons. The hair, the facial structure, the mouth, the eyes that droop a little, even the nose are a bit similar. They aren't identical, but they look like they could be brothers or cousins, something like that. Please, don't tell me you don't see it"

I don't. He got disappointed. Then we changed subjects and began to talk about Arcadia. Does anyone here see this?

So, I currently have a regular LG blu-ray player that I got some years ago and I'm thinking in finally grabbing a 4k player. is it the same as a UHD? and if so, what models do you guys recommend? I can't buy one used since these guys are impossible to find in my country, unfortunately.

Eu ria no início, eu ria.
