BST Hyde Park Debrief

First time seeing them and they were absolutely brilliant. I couldn't be happier with the setlist, and I was glad to hear The Chauffeur, Is There Something I Should I Know and New Moon On Monday. The Wild Boys as an encore song instead, with the fire twirlers and London Calling intro was so cool as well. Scissor Sisters & Nile Rodgers were great too, but the sound mixes for them weren't that good IMO.

I just noticed they are doing a gig at the o2 in October now, which is great, because I didn't like BST's greedy golden circle tier concept, so I'm glad I'll have a chance to see them up close in the GA section in the arena now

Pics from Budapest.

Sorry, a week late! Came from Australia for the gig, we were interviewed in the stadium by some guy with a cameraman as we'd travelled there from so far away; could have been Hungarian TV for all I know!

"Xennial" Duran Duran fans

HI everyone! I'm relatively new to Reddit, and it's so great to see this group, and read your posts.

(Part 1)- I'll actually break this up into 2 different posts, because I'm very wordy!

I've been thinking of the differnt age groups/generations that make up the Duran Duran fanbase. I assume that the majority of fans were born between 1968 and 1973, since this would put them between 12 and 17 years old during Duran Duran's 1982-1986 heyday? I've got lots of questions for this cohort of fans, since I think their memories of these key Duran Duran years are probably the strongest, compared to other age groups.

However, I'll leave this to a later post, since I wanted to use this post to address fans who are slightly younger, since I'm curious about how you came to love the band even though you may have been very young during that key early/mid 80s period, or may not even have been born yet. :-)

I have a very weird (but funny) first memory of Duran Duran, and I later found out it wasn't even Duran Duran at all, lol! Back in '84 or '85 I was watching Solid Gold one night, and I remember them the host talking about Duran Duran. I was about 7 at the time. Since I was young at the time, I sometimes used to get certain bands blurred and mixed up in my head. During that episode, they played a song called "Things Can Only Get Better". For some reason, I thought it was a Duran Duran song, and I went on thinking that for about 5 years after that, every time I heard the song. Then one day I found out it was actually Howard Jones. :-) My theory is that I heard "New Moon on Monday" around the same thing, and I ended up confusing the two songs. Just my opinion, but the 2 songs have a similar sounding chorus.

The Power Station was my first concert ever.

I was finally allowed to attend a concert with an older friend when I was about 13.

There was no Robert Palmer. Instead we got M. D' Embarassmet

WTF?

Union of the Snake video

happened upon this video flipping thru channels and realized there is a story going on. Simon/John/Roger are out in the desert (doing tesearch?) and one night Simon is visited by a bellhop who takes him into a secret underground civilization rules by Nick? and then a fight breaks out and Simon pops out of a tube and meets up with John/Roger. but Simon falls down on a sand dune and wakes up to find a horseman and they ride off? where was Andy? Does anyone know the actual story? 😭

Duran Duran-Live Action Movie

no. there is no movie (other than ARENA) that I know of…but woke up with this crazy idea in my head that these guys all need to make a movie, and I wanted to cast them as a group of adventurers in a fantasy world filled with magic, monsters, science and supernatural. 😅

Simon would be a bard (party leader) and his symbol is a tiger(baby)!🐯 Nick is a wizard and master of the dark arts and his symbol is the (New) moon (on Monday)!🌙 Andy is a barbarian and his symbol is a lightning bolt (Power Station)!⚡️ John is a Swashbuckler and his symbol is (So Red) the Rose!🥀 Roger is a Rogue-silent like the Shadows (on Your Side) but deadly (A View to a Kill) and his symbol is the Hungry Like the) Wolf 🐺

just thought to share my crazy idea, thinking some of you might enjoy. it would just be a crazy cool way to incorporate so many of their songs into a long-playing music video. (Im also a huge GORILLAZ fan…so I know Duran could make a bangin animated musical feature.) ❤️😎❤️

My metalhead friend revisiting Liberty

Hello everyone, how are you doing? So, recently, my best friend, the one you guys already know about, decided to give a try to the albums he didn't like when we were doing that whole journey through Duran Duran discography.

Liberty was the one I was pestering him the most to do, since in his own words "it's like a traumatic memory. I know it happened, I just can't remember any of it", and then I made that post about it you had to pick two songs, which ones it would be. He chose Hothead and Violence of Summer and I just couldn't grasp my head around it; it's not his style, not on an album with Serious.

And we were talking on WhatsApp about it, and since we are Brazilians, the translator got a bit wonky, pardon for any confusing sentences. The songs on the screenshots are Violence of Summer, Liberty and My Antarctica.

"This album is a Warren feat Duran Duran, because the only consistent thing about it is how great his guitars are. It's not a bad album per se, it's just all over the place. How can you have Serious and My Antarctica lumped with Venice Drowning? Still, between Liberty and RCM, Liberty all the way. I can see Hothead on my playlist, but not The Valley, you know?"

He listened to Paper Gods and RCM, but it was in person and I didn't remember to make annotations. But, he likes Paper Gods a bit more, because Butterfly Girl exists, but not enough to be a liked album. And RCM...it's not even worth it for me to say all the things he thinks about this album now. In the end, he will forever be an Arcadia fan.

Violence of Summer 🥵🔥But John is still cool.... 😸😎

"Say 'Cheese-and-crackers, it's FUCKING HOT!'" 😸👿🤬😰😸 (....but are we talking about the weather or these classic-era shots of John???) Anyone else in the throes of the East Coast USA heatwave ~ or elsewhere???

Duran Duran featured in a movie...sorta

Hello, everyone. I was listening to Hungry Like the Wolf earlier, and it reminded me of this movie I saw bits and pieces of when I was growing up.

It featured the late Farrah Fawcett, and it was about this woman (played by Fawcett) who is a mother, and one night, she takes her three children out for a ride, pulls over the car and shoots them at point blank range. Hungry Like the Wolf was playing while this occurred, and I remember one of the two children who survived testifying while they played the song, but it wasn't the Duran Duran version, but some cover band doing it. I supposed the makers of the movie couldn't get the rights to the actual song.

The only other thing I remember about the movie is that Lex Luthor from The Adventures of Lois and Clark was in it as the prosecutor, and he ended up adopting the two surviving children. And apparently, this was all based on a true story.

Anyone ever seen this movie?

My first ever dd show was real good

So yesterday I went to my first ever duran duran show, and i really liked it (as the title says lol), i also made a sign that said "Adopt me Nick!", and he [Nick] saw the sign and smiled. My heart almost fell out because of excitement, and Simon has also made eye contact with me.

(note: i suck at giving titles)
