London skyline at night from Southeast London, Canon 600d with Sigma 14mm

Tonight I took a short timelapse from the viewing platform of Severndroog Castle in Southeast London. I used a Canon 600d with a Sigma 14mm art lens, these are 20 second exposures and I've just used quicktime to stick them all into a timelapse.

Solar Eclipse 2026 from Greenwich, UK

I am a member of the Flamsteed Astronomy Society in Greenwich, UK. We volunteered at the Royal Observatory Greemwich (ROG), to help people view the eclipse in a safe manner. We have hydrogen alpha telescopes for the public to look at the eclipse...it was crazy busy lol!

We normally volunteer at the ROG to give the public the opertunity to view the sun in Ha and we also run some public night time observation session, when it gets darker agian. Check out our up coming events on https://www.flamsteed.info/events

Acquision:

My personal Lunt LF50t with a ZWO ASI678MM camera on a ZWO AM5 mount. The images was taken and stacked with SharpCap and then processed in Imppg, Pixinsight, imagemagic and quicktime.

NGC 7380 - Wizard Nebula (Bortle 8 South East London, UK) Dwarf 3

I've spend 4 nights taking images of the Wizard nebula from my back garden in South East London. It is very light poluted, so I've used the build in Dual Narrowband filter. I've stacked the image myself in Pixinsight and processed it in Pixinsight. It was 213 light frames, adding up to 7 hours and 6 mins.

213 x 120 second exposures at 40 gain

Sun

With the solar eclipse coming up this week, the sun has become a hot topic ;)

Acquisition:

  • Lunt LS50t Ha telescope
  • ZWO ASI678MM camera
  • ZWO AM5 mount
  • SharpCap capturing software

I've used the SharpCap timelapse function, 800 frames stacked every 30 seconds, then processed in IMPPG and colour added in Pixinsight. The timelapse is from about 09:30ish am till 16:00ish BST

We worked out the prominence at the bottom near 19:00 is about 12 earth sizes, there is lots of activity in the all over when you zoom into different areas

NGC 7380 - The wizard nebula

Taken from South East London, UK…bortle 8.5 zone 😅 Askar 120 APO with 0.8 reducer ASI2600MC camera AM5 mount Use Askar colour magic D1, D2 and SVBony Oiii filters and clear uv/ir cut filter for the stars. In total 7 hours integration. Stacked and finished in Pixinsight with a HOS palette. Full resolution on https://app.astrobin.com/i/ewd2nj

NGC 7380 - The Wizard Nebula

Last night I took this image of the Wizard Nebula from South East London, UK....bortle 8.5 zone.

Acquisition:

  • Dwarf 3 with narrowband filter
  • EQ mode on a tripod
  • 34 * 120 second exposures
  • Gain 60
  • Bortle 8.5....it's like looking into a glass of milk 😅
  • Greenwich, South East London, UK

Processing

The Dwarf took 49 images, discarded 35 images and only stacked 14. I thought it might be worth having a look at the failed images and see if there is something I can rescue there. I found 20 of the 35 images might be worth stacking. I stacked the 14 good images and the 20 (think they're ok) images in Pixinsights. I was happy with the output and then continued on my workflow:

  • BlurXterminator
  • SPCC with the narrowband filter in the settings
  • StarXterminator
  • Split the channels into and assigned it to Ha, Sii and Oiii
  • Recombined the channels in a HOS palette
  • Curves a little
  • NoiseXterminator
  • Put the stars back and here we are 😄

M 27 - The Dumbbell Nebula

Recently got a Dwarf 3 and I am very impressed by it's ability on deep sky objects. This is an image I took last night from South East London, UK. Bortle 8.5 zone. It is 139 * 30 exposures with the Narrowband filter. Cleaned up the image a bit in Pixinsights

Our Sun in Ha yesterday

I took this timelapse video yesterday with my Lunt LS50t Ha telescope. This is about 2 hours worth of data and it is inverted to display the contras better.

Our Sun

Today I took my first image of our Sun that I am happy to share. It was not at the best time to take it, it was very late afternoon and it was raining every 10mins which made it even more annoying.

I am still extreamly new to solar and planet photograpy, so there is plenty to learn and improve on, but I am really enjoying it.

Equipment:

  • Lund LS50T Ha telescope
  • Juwei 17 mount
  • ASI678MM camera

Process:

  • Aquired SER file with Firecapture (1012 frames, Shutter=1.284ms, Gain=74 (12%))
  • Stacked in Autostakkert
  • Imppg to refine the details
  • Pixinsight solar toolbox to finish the detail, colour and light
