Management companies locally owned?

Looking for housing in Austin and wondering what management companies might be locally owned. I had a bad experience with Greystar and wondering if there are any complexes around town that are owned locally by smaller companies that maybe can be trusted more than the large corporate management companies.

Budget ~$1500

What do you wish now you had considered/examined before choosing your apartment?

I'm on the hunt for an apartment after living in a house for a while, and I'm curious what are the things I should consider that haven't crossed my mind about the qualities I want and don't want in an apartment.

This question came up in my mind because I remember at the last apartment complex I lived in, I toured a show unit before I moved in and it looked nice but when I actually moved in, my unit was on a different side of the complex and was right near the busy main road. I was really surprised after moving in that the sound of cars driving by was really loud/noticeable from my apartment since I had multiple windows directly facing the road, which I think was 45 mph. I got used to it eventually, but for the first week or two it would wake me up early in the morning when people started making their commutes to work. The street also had some nighttime foot traffic and randomly sometimes people would be out on the sidewalk yelling in the middle of the night as they were passing through.

So were there any things when you moved into your apartment that were negative or positive that you hadn't considered until you encountered them? Could be things that you wished you had thought about before so you could avoid them, or things you really liked that you then wanted to keep in your next living situation

How do you decide when/if/how to talk to a new partner about your past experience being cheated on?

I have been on a couple of dates with someone new and we really click so far. Because of my experience being cheated on and lied to by my ex, I’ve developed at great deal of anxiety in relationships. It had a deep impact on me because we had been dating for so long and I had started thinking about my future with him, and then it all just changed in an instant.

I’ve been working with a therapist for a while and I do think things are better, but the anxiety is still there where I start to worry about how I’ll cope with my fears of infidelity when dating someone new. I don’t have any intention of talking about it anytime soon because it’s still brand new, but because we’re clicking so well, I started to wonder how and when I would approach the conversation about my anxiety. Part of me wishes I never had to talk about it at all and that I could just be normal and feel normal, but in my dating experience since being cheated on, it tends to start affecting me once things start to get a bit more serious.

Concern about disease/mold on some plants

I am seeing some odd spots on my cuke leaves, my corn almost looks like it’s molding, have some holes/brown spots on my shishitos, and my Swiss chard started turning brown (this was recent after I just fertilized the other day, so could be related to that). Anybody have an ID for these issues and/or advice on how to proceed?

What’s wrong with my shishitos?

They’re still growing well and producing a lot but I’ve been seeing more of these splotchy leaves

What native wildflowers are you planting now to bloom summer/fall? What doesn’t need to overwinter?

I was wanting to plant some fire wheels and wine cups because I’ve been seeing them everywhere and they look so beautiful, but someone at the natural gardener told me they don’t sell wine cup seeds until the fall because they need to overwinter. I have a couple of beds in my backyard that are still empty so I’m looking for some things I can start planting now that might come up later this summer or in the fall cause I’m jonesing to plant something new.

Looking for a book of short stories that were creative, non-fiction, female author

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some help finding a book that I read in 2015.

I believe the genre was considered what my professor called “creative non-fiction” in our class. It was a book that was a collection of works, not sure if they would be considered essays or short stories. They were a mix of some autobiographical stories and some pieces that were maybe a bit more observational/somewhat journalistic.

If I’m remembering correctly, the author was female, and one story in particular that I remember was about her being on a trip abroad, and during the trip I think she was robbed, and during the robbery she was punched in the face by her robber.

Unfortunately, I can’t remember any of the other short stories or essays and their topics. I do believe that the book had been written somewhat recently so I would guess that it probably wasn’t published any earlier than maybe 2010. I also think that I recall the cover of the book may have been white and there was some kind of art or graphic or picture that had warm toned colors like pink and red.

I’ve been getting back into reading lately and wanted to reread it, but unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of the professor of that course. I’ve reached out to a current faculty member to try to get the past professor’s name so that maybe I could find him on LinkedIn, but I haven’t received a response after several weeks.

SAVE THE BURNING BLADE BAKED POTATO

The baked potato at the Burning Blade is so delicious. It’s beautifully charred, the peppery bacon is a nice little kick, and they char the cheese. A bartender told me today they might take it off the menu because it’s not ordered often so PLEASE GO TRY IT AND KEEP IT ALIVE! Save it from extinction!

Thank you for your time and attention.

Edit to add: seating at the Burning Blade is pretty limited, but you can carry your tater over to Das Stakehouse where there is plentiful seating and air conditioning. I’ve done it twice now and the staff didn’t bat an eye (although they didn’t appreciate when my friend had a garlic stake, as they live to serve and protect their vampire masters)
