Made a site that shows upcoming music across all Winnipeg venues!

I used to love going through every venue's event calendar, then hopping across random websites trying to figure out what each band actually sounded like... but then I had kids. 😆

So I built a website that does all of that for you.

It lists upcoming shows and includes direct links to each band's Bandcamp / Spotify, plus a YouTube sample track so you can quickly hear if they're your vibe.

I live in Vancouver, but used to live in the Prairies (and saw many a show) so I just added Winnipeg to the list of cities!

Check it out at www.musicateight.com!

I'm not super familiar with the Winnipeg music scene these days though... can you guys let me know if I'm missing any important venues?

(For the curious: How do I pull all of this together from wildly different sources—sometimes when all there is band names on a poster? AI.)

Made a site that shows upcoming music across all Ottawa venues!

I live in Vancouver, but am originally from Ottawa and do visit from time to time (and see shows!) so I just added Ottawa to the list of cities!

I Built a Second Brain for Live Music Nuts

As a Montreal student 20 years ago, my weekly ritual was simple: grab a fresh Montreal Mirror, flip straight to the music listings, and work my way through basically every band. I discovered a ridiculous amount of great music that way.

These days I live in Vancouver, but I’m back in Montreal often and still try to catch shows. The problem: the Mirror is gone, and figuring out what’s playing now feels weirdly like detective work. Vancouver has the same issue. Listings are scattered everywhere, and apparently having young kids means I no longer have three hours to Google every band on a Tuesday night.

So I built Music at Eight.

It uses AI to hunt down local show listings, then connects each artist to Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Spotify, etc. There’s also a play button right beside each band, so you can immediately hear what they sound like instead of opening 17 tabs. It also shows genre and where the artist is from.

Basically, it’s a second brain for live-music nerds.

I started with Vancouver and just expanded it to Montreal. It’s currently tracking 100+ venues and shows up to 90 days out.

I’m pretty removed from the Montreal scene these days, though, so I’d love to hear from you guys! Did I miss any important venues?
