Having four factions on release could be an issue.

After coming from warhammer 3 it’s going to be a shock only having four factions in the game. I don’t even really mind only being able to play four factions. I’m really concerned about it from an enemy faction perspective. Like you’re going to only have 3 other factions you fight. Technically you’ll probably be able to fight your own faction but it’s hard to imagine that happening often. The orks will probably fight themselves more often but it’s hard to imagine Aeldari doing it frequently. That’s not even taking into account the imperial factions who will probably not be fighting each other often either. If you play space marines that will mean you will almost exclusively be fighting only two other factions. Each army will also be the least diverse till they get dlc.

I’m really hopeful they put out another faction shortly after launch to help with this. Maybe they’ll also make mini campaigns for things like the Badab war to have those imperial vs imperial fights more often and have orks and Aeldari as background enemies to fight for diversity.

Edit: To clarify I mean 4 races or whatever term they will use in this game. I assume there will be multiple sub factions per race.

I want to start by saying I appreciate the devs being open and giving us an early look at Med 3 during preproduction. But…..what the fuck do you mean you need to see if you can make castle sieges work? The medieval period is synonymous with castle sieges. It would be like not including knights in the game. When I think of playing a medieval strategy game the first thing I think of is knights and castles. If you don’t think you can make castles work then you shouldn’t make the game. To me this is a non negotiable feature of the game. It’s confusing that they’d say naval combat was a matter of when rather than if. Maybe I’m just uninformed but my understanding of naval warfare during the medieval period is that it really wasn’t present in the same way it was in the periods before and after it. I can think of numerous naval battles from the classical period or the early modern period. I can’t think of a single significant naval battle in the medieval period. I’m sure they existed and probably worth putting in the game, but I cannot understand why naval battles would take precedent over castle sieges.

Maybe I misunderstood what they meant on the stream. I just wanted to make it clear that castle sieges should be a non negotiable for Medieval 3.
