Will ham steaks (1/4 " slices) go well with sauerkraut - baked in the oven?

I have some large slices of ham and thought to put sauerkraut on top of them and heat them in the oven for half an hour. Do people cook ham like this? Thanks for any feedback.

How do I bring this panel back into place? Thanks.

This antique icebox was stored on its top so the panel slid out of place. I tried to lightly hammer it back into place with a sewing needle, and a chisel as well, but it won't move. I don't want to crack the panel so I would welcome your ideas.
