Outdoor educator kit

This is my current set up for teaching classes and demonstrating skills in the woods! It’s a HPG Umlindi with a line pocket. Definitely big enough for me to carry extra medical equipment along with whatever goodies I want to bring along.

Current tool setup

Since we only had 10 pounds of gear to work with I chose my heavy instructor and my leatherman rebar. Lightweight but very capable.

Outdoor educator things

My job this summer as well as the past five summers has been teaching Bushcraft and survival skills to kids in Western North Carolina. Figured I’d post up some of the more bushcrafty things we’ve been doing!!

New bearing block

Today I made this new bearing block for my Bow drill kit, used a power drill (I know. I know, I should’ve drilled it out with Stone and spent 2 1/2 hours on it) added a lanyard hole, and it runs super smooth!

Custom kydex for my rebar

Rigged this guy up with a friend of mine today. Meant to go inside of my Swiftwater rescue PFD.

Finally got a new leatherman! Rebar

The longest time I’ve been using my granddad’s old PST, and loved it! Decided to retire it for sentimental value and go with the rebar! This will accompany me on my summer of being a outdoor educator, guiding rafts, canoes and teaching outdoor skills

Hickory Spoon

Little rough but definitely usable! Did a decoration on the top, and then some bug spots added some nice flair

Nettle for cordage!

Got out today and cut some stinging nettle to dry for cordage! Gonna try and make a bow drill fire using the cord.

Little knife things

Friend of mine sent me this little personal survival knife. Give it a shot today by carving out a bow drill and getting an ember!

Clarifying question

Trying to change oil on my 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 V6. Is this the drain plug, or transmission?

Knife sheath pouch kit

The recent switch of seasons has made me change out my gear a little bit! Figured I’ll start posting it up, first up is my HFS instructor heavy with my LRB Knife sheath pouch. I have the pouch holding a pure fire tactical ferro rod, a DC4 stone, and a bundle of paracord. These are nice things to have on a big blade such as this!

Got out today for a small scout out, about 3miles along a creek. Love seeing everything come into bloom, some awesome edible plants coming up, as well as medicinal. Got a poplar tree picked out to cull for a bark pack basket next weekend! Cut down a small American hornbeam (iron wood) in preparation of a ball head war club! Ended the scout near a awesome waterfall with plenty of beaver sign.

One of my good friends came up with this really awesome idea for a SAK sheath, that allows you to hold a ferro rod. I punched a hole in it for a grommet, and now I can tie it off to my belt.
