you’ve haunted me for 7 years
in every facet of my life
it used to come and go
but now it keeps me up at night

something about the way you loved me
is something i cannot shake
i’ve looked for you in every other
it never feels the same

now each spring that becomes summer
reminds me of when i became yours
the feeling that follows settles into my chest
then sinks down into my core

a pit makes a home for itself in my stomach
that’s always the first sign
i try to ignore it for as long as i can
until i accept this pit as mine

i’ve forgotten a lot
blocked it out, smoked too much weed
but my body remembers
remembers you, and reminds me

it starts around the new year
and gets worse in february
and by the time march rolls around
it’s too heavy for me to carry

a cycle i repeat each year like clockwork
i know you know it too
like the pollen plagues me in the spring
april plagues me with you

usually i am an old navy girl when it comes to clothes but when i went over the weekend i didn’t find anything. i need a summery dress for an engagement party this weekend. any suggestions?
