Why did parts of Line 5 and 6 need to be above ground?

Maybe this has been explained before but I can’t find a discussion on it. Is it just simply because of saving time and money or other reasons? I know the stretch between Laird to Don Valley on Line 5 is because they can’t put the LRT underground through Sunnybrook Park but why keep the rest of the line above ground up to Kennedy?
