we have four cats, all female, all spayed. all friendly to people and content for the most part. our first two, a tabby and a tortoiseshell (not siblings, about ten years old now) were adopted at the same time and get on ok. about three years later we got two new kittens, a calico and a ginger (same litter, about seven now).

anyway, our main problem is the tabby and the ginger HATE each other and always have. well the tabby kind of hates all the others but will tolerate them, but she’ll hiss and growl at the ginger if they happen to want to pass each other. like if they’re coming down a corridor in opposite directions she’ll freeze, crouch, puff up, yowl… a few years ago they had a bad fight and the ginger ended up with an infected wound. they have their own spaces to sleep, eat etc. usually the tabby stays downstairs and the ginger stays upstairs. she has a healthy fear of the tabby and won’t go near her if it can be helped which at least keeps the peace.

however lately they’ve both been peeing outside the litter box and it’s getting to be a real problem. were renovating our house so things are moving a lot, so i’m guessing it’s a combination of stress at the change, needing to claim territory from the other etc. no utis, diabetes etc as far as we know. what can we do to stop them peeing everywhere? renovations will be ongoing for a long time, they have plenty of litter boxes, private spaces, feliway etc. after years of hating each other is there a way to make them tolerate each other or is it too late? and how to discourage peeing when the whole house is being changed almost every day? should we get them to the vet and have them doped up with something while the work goes on? could be another year before everything settles.

i enjoy historical/wuxia/xianxia dramas more than modern or 20th century settings but i am finding myself very tired of the mainstream idol drama formula, especially in recent dramas. for example, i dropped pursuit of jade bc although it was good, i also felt like it was going nowhere i hadn’t been before.

however, i have seen glimpses of what i think i’m looking for, but i don’t know what these types of dramas are called or how to find them. for example, i came across a clip on twitter that looked like a stereotypical idol cultivation drama, but i was surprised at the fact that it was explicitly BL (i mean they were shirtless and kissing and everything wow!) and when i looked up the drama i think it was a Thai production (but set in what i assume was a Chinese fantasy/cultivation setting). of course ive forgotten the name… but i thought ok you wont see that in a mainstream cdrama. similarly i remember reading a recommendation for a wuxia type drama that had a lesbian romance, which i think was an independent web production?

i’m not looking for non-censored GL/BL dramas exclusively, these are just the examples that come to mind, it’s more that these have given me a glimpse of a more independent drama scene and i’d love to know more about it. i hear a lot of things like ‘oh this censorship rule is only because the show was broadcast on mainstream TV’ so id love to know what’s being produced beyond mainstream TV. obviously there are a lot of good serious historical dramas about real figures, classic wuxia etc., but i think what im looking for is maybe shows that have idol-type aesthetics or settings or tropes but do something different or interesting with them. if there is romance maybe something more interesting than innocent 20 year old girl meets stern 30 year old general and the miscommunicate and kiss once in thirty episodes… are there historical or fantasy dramas like this? where should i be looking? short dramas seem more like what im looking for i think but i dont know where to start. or are these types of shows inaccessible due to lack of english subs?

i’ll take any recommendations anyone has, can be a no budget web show or a classic from 30 years ago. also i’m more than interested in stuff from outside mainland china, if thats within the subs rules. romance or no romance, politics, slice of life, historically accurate, fantasy, serious drama, high camp, whatever! as long as it’s fun and different and interesting and the characters behave like human adults

i’ll take any recommendations anyone has, can be a no budget web show or a classic from 30 years ago. i enjoy serious, highly rated shows like nirvana in fire and joy of life, but i also love shows that aren’t ‘good’ but are campy and kind of insane like word of honor and the untamed. as long as it’s fun, weird, interesting or different than the usual formula in some way.

I have some elm trees in my garden (the plant ID app says its field elm, but i’m still not 100% sure). about 5 meters away i have my greenhouse. this spring when tidying up i noticed some elm shoots in the greenhouse, at first i thought maybe some seeds had blown in and taken root over the winter, but when i started to clear them out i realised they were growing out of suckers and roots underground. this is how i discovered that elm trees grow suckers…

my question is, will this be a problem long term? the greenhouse has been there for about five years, and this is the first year ive had this problem. when planting my tomato plants i found that there were a LOT of roots (biggest about 1cm thick) criss crossing the beds in the greenhouse. Is there anything i can/should do? will they be sucking up the nutrients my plants need? do i just dig aggressively every year and cut them out?
