Mamakas Taverna
Went to Mamakas taverna on Canada Day.
You walk in and the kitchen is right there in front, open. The place is busy, and loud. It’s fine I just felt the vibe didn’t match the price and experience i expected.
Started with the keftedes. $24. They were good and liked the yogurt. Very flavourful and moist.
My wife ordered the octopus. $38. Inside was cooked well, not rubbery, but the outside was tough and bitter from the grill. The polenta on the bottom was plain and didn’t add much. It’s a big piece of octopus put on a plate, wasn’t super flavourful, not much else to say.
I had the souvlaki mid rare. $38. Some pieces were mid rare but some were overdone. It was ok
It was weird to see that when you order something, you get only that thing on a plate without any sides or anything else. The presentation was lacking and a little miffed we had to order a side by itself, like you are getting nickel and dimed.
We ordered potatoes on the side $14. They were fine. Nothing mind blowing.
Overall we were in for $182.78 and I can only describe it as ok, slightly better than Mr Greek, but Mr Greek would be like $30 for two people. Nothing was terribly wrong but for two hundred dollars you expect something much better and we didn’t get that. Wouldn’t go back.
