Food near YYZ that's NOT Zets
I work out of the maintenance hangars across the street from Zets and me and my colleagues have all agreed Zets has fallen from stardom over the last couple of years.
Looking for any recommendations that's ideally within 20 minutes, we all come from different backgrounds and love trying literally any kind of food.
Jerk chicken from Ocha’s
Chicken is up there with the greats RAPS and Rasta pasta. Coleslaw unique too. Only ding is I order extra spicy, but there’s no noticeable heat.
This $30 Vietnamese BBQ platter in Markham was way bigger than I expected
Stopped by Pho Bun Bun after a friend’s dentist appointment and this platter completely surprised me.
For around $30, it came with grilled pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, vermicelli, herbs, pickles, and rice paper to wrap everything yourself. Everything was well seasoned, and the Vietnamese coffee was honestly just as good as the food.
Definitely left feeling way too full. 😅 Anyone else have favorite Vietnamese spots in the GTA?
Best Greasy Burger (Yonge/Midtown delivery)
Yep, I said it. Just craving a good ‘ol greasy/juicy burger that you need some napkins to dab on your chin. This is not an everyday thing!
Which local brewery has the best food?
Looking for a craft brewery with great food for dining in and a nice atmosphere
Summerlicious recommendations?
There are so many options that I'm having a hard time deciding. Which Summerlicious restaurant has been your favorite so far? I'm looking for somewhere with great food and a good overall experience. Open to any cuisine! Thank you!
Issho Bakery - Flat white & Sunday sundae
Was in East Chinatown on Sunday so I stopped by Issho to grab some coffee and soft serve.
Flat white was brewed with featured Dak coffee – was on the funky/winey side since they were anaerobic processed.
The soft serve was exceptional. A strawberry soft serve with a strong flavour, meringue, castella cake, and strawberries topped off. If I didn't live so far, I'd go more frequently.
Caffe Crema at eataly - Distillery District
Is this a regular size? I mean I don’t mind paying the price but the size?
I got this caffe crema and I paid $9 plus tip.
I've bought caffe crema at Yorkville before and paid $8 for a larger one. Is this a normal size? To me looked too small, Is like a 6 oz drink
I don’t really like to complain lol so that’s why I’m asking here 😅
DAILO, PREMIUM
Did the premium tasting menu on the weekend as first timers! The service was top notch, we really felt taken care of (as expected, we are paying for it). The food was properly explained and we could really tell the ingredients were top tier. Some misses, overall a solid 8/10. Bill was 466$ with tip, no alcohol. It was ALOT of food and we both felt unideal after so make sure you go prepared. Would recommend but wouldn't return as i felt i experienced what Dailo can offer.
Good cocktail bars on the cheaper end or that have good happy hours?
Im going to an omakase on wednesday and looking to get some drinks after. the person im going with isnt big on getting drunk but i dont rly like beer so we get cocktails. Ive found bar 404 having $12 classic cocktails and some cool signature ones too for 15 on the happy hour otw 20-25. would love to hear some suggestions in the under 20ish signature cocktails and cheaper classic ones. thanks!
Look for recommendations for a street food/ cheapish food tour.
Sorry if this is posted often but was hoping to get some specialized input. I’m visiting from Prague so we have good Vietnamese food, but I want to rip into some other cuisines. Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, South American.
I understand it’s Toronto and stuff is t dirt cheap but I don’t want to spend more than let’s say 100$ today and I want to eat at many different places
I sprained my ankle so I’ll be moving around on the an ebike but I’m in little Portugal now so I feel like I can get some distance
Summerlicious 2026 - Khazana Toronto
One of my friends tried Winterlicious in 2025 at Khazana so I was looking forward to trying Summerlicious here and taste their food. Before getting to the food, I'll just say the staff and service at the restaurant were wonderful, very friendly and attentive. I also thought the restaurant was clean and I like the atmosphere offside inside.
We both ordered the non-vegetarian option.
Appetizers: Instead of picking one option, you get to try all 3 of them. I liked the chicken Momo, but the other two chicken options were just okay to me. While the left had an interesting sauce (tamarind?), the right was a regular chicken tikka. I also thought the quality of the meat could be better, and all three of the apps are chicken, perhaps one could be something else?
Main: You get to pick between the lamb or the butter chicken curry. This also comes with dal, rice, and assorted bread. The rice was a bit plain despite looking quite flavorful, but other than that the main was really good. I like the assortment of bread (regular naan, garlic naan, and some others) and the portion was pretty generous and very filling.
Dessert: You can pick between the Mango Tres Leches, Halwa Tart, and Gulab Jamon. We picked the first two. I liked the mango tres leches, it's quite light and not too sweet. The Halwa was tasty as well.
Overall for $55 per person, I thought it was a good experience. Both of us left feeling stuffed and while there are critiques about the meal, there were more positives than negatives for me and the service is very great as well. I would recommend Summerlicious here.
Wanaag Restaurant & Grill (Somali) - Parliament/Shuter
At the top of the photo: Beef Steak ($21.25 + tax)
Bottom plate: Lamb shoulder ($24.39 + tax)
Unfortunately I didn't have a bite of the beef, but buddy enjoyed it.
The lamb shoulder was 🔥🔥! So tender and flavourful.
Each order comes with a lentil soup, a carb choice (we picked rice), salad, some grilled veggies and a drink. Some green vinegar/chutney sauce was also brought out, mixed reviews on that.
2 people shared the lamb, very filling and tasty.
Happy to hear of some other Somali restaurants to try, and if there's other dishes we should have tried!
Oji Seichi Summerlicious
Appetizer: veg Korokke, harumaki
Main: curry mazeman, spicy tomato mazeman
Dessert: soft serve with karinto and miso caramel, strawberry shortcake
Was really excited to try this spot for lunch summerlicious! It was only $20. However, the mazeman were both so salty and the portion was very small. I had to drink so much water. The appetizers were good and hot. The dessert was pretty sad looking
Cheap Mexican Food
Where are the cheap Mexican restaurants on the west end (Ossington-ish)? The ones with unlimited chips & salsa, a half way decent margarita, and some chimichangas that are so deep fried you can’t taste the flavour anymore. You know the one - it’s not good enough for your in-laws but you go there on a Tuesday because you don’t feel like cooking ? We’re feeding an army of 4 hungry kids.
Summerlicious 2026 - Fallen Feather 🪶
I’ve been wanting to try Fallen Feather since Winterlicious 2026, but it was fully booked…
Finally got to try their Summerlicious 2026 menu!
It didn’t disappoint, very happy with the food and portion size for a $34pp lunch.
We tried 2 appetizers: Salmon Tataki & Cold Soba and Beef Tartare. Both were decent, but nothing great imho.
For the 2 entrees: AAA Striploin and “Stone” Chirashi Don. The striploin was cooked perfectly and very tender. The head of lettuce underneath was well dressed and had melted cheese over it, really well done! The stone chirashi don was very creamy from the egg yolk, the fish was great too! However, I actually think it would be better not in a hot stone bowl. The stone bowl sort of cooked some parts of the salmon and tuna, which was a bit odd to get some cooked fish with fully raw fish in the same bite. Overall, both entrees were great!
Desserts: Espresso brownies and Yuzu Panna Cotta. Both were amazing! The panna cotta was really smooth. The espresso brownie and ice cream were great too.
Atmosphere: Super vibey with their darker aesthetic with Parisian gold frames and mirrors. Sets the vibe with dim lighting and black marble tables.
We loved the entrees and desserts! The appetizers were decent, but the mains and desserts are the highlight! Definitely recommend Fallen Feather for their summerlicious menu!
Rating: 9/10
Looking for Zataar
I am trying to find some good do quality zataar. I have found the Tamam brand in several stores but it is not quite as rich a flavour ax I have had. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can buy some? Cross posted
Thanks!
Mamakas Taverna
Went to Mamakas taverna on Canada Day.
You walk in and the kitchen is right there in front, open. The place is busy, and loud. It’s fine I just felt the vibe didn’t match the price and experience i expected.
Started with the keftedes. $24. They were good and liked the yogurt. Very flavourful and moist.
My wife ordered the octopus. $38. Inside was cooked well, not rubbery, but the outside was tough and bitter from the grill. The polenta on the bottom was plain and didn’t add much. It’s a big piece of octopus put on a plate, wasn’t super flavourful, not much else to say.
I had the souvlaki mid rare. $38. Some pieces were mid rare but some were overdone. It was ok
It was weird to see that when you order something, you get only that thing on a plate without any sides or anything else. The presentation was lacking and a little miffed we had to order a side by itself, like you are getting nickel and dimed.
We ordered potatoes on the side $14. They were fine. Nothing mind blowing.
Overall we were in for $182.78 and I can only describe it as ok, slightly better than Mr Greek, but Mr Greek would be like $30 for two people. Nothing was terribly wrong but for two hundred dollars you expect something much better and we didn’t get that. Wouldn’t go back.
Summerlicious 2026 @ Ayla
Went to Ayla (Dundas West) for Summerlicius 2026.
I honestly feel this place is slept on - great atmosphere, staff was excellent, close to transit. The meal was 8.5 /10 .
We ordered the following.
chrysanthemum Caesar - My friend enjoyed it , and so did I. I did feel this was quite unami for my taste, but it helped balanced the next dish we had.
Duck rice toast - it tasted like roasted pig with the hoisin sauce, it was delicious, I can take like 10 of these, because it was like bite-sized.
Drinks - The Last Emperor and Lychee Rose , $$ , worth it, you can taste strong alcohol in these.
Prawn Okonomiyaki -was on their A La Carte menu, so glad we ordered this - the crunch, the stuffing , the sauce and flakes completes me :)
Sablefish - melts in my mouth , marinated for 48 hours I believe.
Char Siu - so soft and yummy, I don't know how they made it not super chewy .
Overall, it was a nice date and experience. Top notch to the serves that made it extra enjoyable. Shareable dishes tbh.
