OBD II readers for the 2020 Outback

So I have become a victim of the dreaded TCV failure on Saturday night. After reading about it I realized that I probably should be getting my own reader as my Outback is crossing the 100k mile mark soon and I'd like to keep it for at least a few years. Not having the failure codes kills me when reading all the possible issues that any set of symptoms can bring.

I'm looking to see who has a OBD II reader for their 2020 Outback. There's so many of them and I want to get a reliable one that works well with the vehicle. Preferably wireless that works with an iPhone but just a plain reader with its own output screen would be fine too. I can depend on having a laptop with me when I'm on the road.

Thermostats in modern vehicles.

Disclaimer: Not a mechanic but I've spun a wrench on my own vehicles in the past (it's been a while).

I have a 2020 Subaru Outback that just went into a Check Engine light condition. It turns out to be a new fangled gizmo that has replaced the thermostats that I'm used to with something called a Thermo Control Valve that failed. This is a known issue for my model/year and has an extended warranty so that's all under control.

My question is if this is common? Have the traditional style of thermostats that I was used to seeing in my 1980s Volvos gone by the wayside for more complex coolant control mechanisms?

First time donor with a question about iron supplements

I'm in the US for reference. I don't know how much things change from region to region.

The questionnaire I had to do prior to the donation asked about multivitamins and iron supplements. It seems that taking them after the donation is recommended. Why do they ask about this on the questionnaire?

My hemoglobin tested at 14.9 today.

Looking for a vibe: Jeff Spicoli

What ambient album would you recommend to Jeff Spicoli? Tasty waves, a cool buzz and he’s fine.

Blood glucose levels don’t make sense to me.

I’m still technically a pre-diabetic but I’m doing some monitoring on my own to figure out what’s going on.

This morning my BG was 125. 12 hour fasting.

This evening, 2.5 hours after a meal with 72 carbs and 30 minutes of zone 2 stationary biking it’s 95.

What gives? I expected it to be higher than my fasting levels.

And yes, the high carb meal was intentional, but the results sure weren’t.
