Broken Leg + Bed Rest... how can I clean my locs before a DIY retwist?

TL;DR - Recovering from a broken leg and can't stand or move around enough to wash my hair. Need advice on how to safely clean my itchy locs before doing an at home retwist.

Long Story: I broke my leg last month and had surgery recently. For the next two weeks I'm basically stuck in bed because I have to keep my leg elevated, and I'll be non weight bearing for another 4–8 weeks.

I usually get a retwist every couple of months, but because of my injury I had to miss my appointment. I'm comfortable doing a decent retwist myself, but my biggest issue is that my scalp and locs are starting to feel itchy and dirty.

…I can't stand in the shower or move around much at all right now. My loctician suggested dry shampoo, but I'm worried it'll leave residue or make my hair look chalky.

Has anyone dealt with this while recovering from surgery or another injury? How did you clean your locs without being able to stand? Are there any no rinse products, scalp cleansers, or techniques that worked well without causing buildup?

I'd really appreciate any advice or tips. Thanks!

Day 1 Post Surgery

Diagnosis: Closed Displaced Bimalleolar Fracture

Surgery: ORIF, ORIF Syndesmosis

What was the hardest part of recovery that nobody warned you about? My nerve block wore off during initial surgery, so once I woke up in the recovery room, I felt EVERYTHING.

Currently using the wedge pillow but finding it uncomfortable, outside of that I’m surviving not thriving 😭.

Retirement Check

Found out today that I am actually over track for retirement. Being a millennial, there are so many years ahead of us and so many unknowns with the government and private sector in terms of what we save and match!

Surviving? Thriving? Or Hiding?

Mental Health Check 🤎

Hey Ladies 👑

Just wanted to do a mental health check-in because this month has honestly been heavy for me. Home, work, and personal life have all felt stressful and overwhelming at the same time, and it’s been hard to find a little peace or calm lately.

I know I am not the only one feeling this way, because I have spoken to others, so I wanted to create a space where we can support each other and remember that we are not alone.

If all you did today was get out of bed and take one step forward, that still counts. You do not have to have everything figured out today. Small victories matter too.

Please continue to give yourself grace, celebrate your progress no matter how small, and remember that you are beautiful, worthy, and braver than you think. One day you’ll look back and realize how much courage it took to keep going through this season.

Checking in on y’all too… how are you really doing? 🫶🏾

Made a career switch from healthcare into fintech over the past decade and wanted to share my salary progression.

It wasn’t a straight path, as I tried to stay in healthcare even as a PM but eventually just had to face the imposter syndrome and try other industries. The transition has been worth it for me so far. less
