Is this events staffing job offer a scam?
I applied for a job as a server/bartender for an events staffing company called NYE Staffing several months back. If I’m being honest, I can’t remember if I applied for this specific company but I know I applied for local events staffing companies, just can’t remember the names and couldn’t locate an application confirmation to cross reference.
On May 15th, I got an email of an interview invitation for banquet servers for the FIFA World Cup here in Seattle next month. I responded and set up an interview. That same day, I got a text message to set up interview. The person I was corresponding with texted and called me from a NY phone number, and sent me a Google Meet link for the interview that took place today at noon.
The interview seemed normal, no red flags. She shared her screen to show me a little presentation about the company and the role. She sent me dates for shifts and told me that she would send me the onboarding paperwork. All normal.
I was sent a text from the same number as before. The red flag for me here is the direct deposit authorization form. It’s through FormStack. I’m not savvy at stuff like this so I’m not sure if this is normal?
They created an account for me on Roosted HR (an app they use for scheduling and essentially a job board I can pick up gigs on). I used the temporary password they provided to login. This app looks legit. The part that seems shady to me is that I am supposed to upload documents of my SSN, ID, and W9 within this app. I was also sent an onboarding packet to fill out this same information through SignNow.
Another important detail is that all emails are coming from what look like legitimate emails that end in the domain @nyeventsny.com.
When I googled the phone number I’ve been corresponding with, the first thing that comes up is the NY Events website. When the woman logged into Google Meet for our interview, an NYE monogram showed before her camera turned on, and she looked like a normal, well-adjusted individual! When we had technical issues, I called the phone number she texted me from and someone from “NY Events” picked up. The person who answered was not the same woman but told me she would let the woman I was speaking with that I called to let her know I was rejoining the video call.
What do you guys think? Am I being overly paranoid, or does this seem like a legitimate job offer? If you were me, what would you do?
