Foodieland report

Alrighty just got back about an hour ago from Foodieland with my wife, 14 yr old son, and 8 yr old son and here’s my follow up report/post.

First off, was it expensive? Of course, but I knew that going into it, so I wasn’t surprised at the cost of the food.

Food we got included: Choripan, a sausage skewer, sushi tacos, quesabirria tacos, birria mac n cheese burrito, 2 giant refillable animal drinks (we got strawberry lemonade, passionfruit lemonade, and peach passionfruit tea), sushi pizza, dumplings, squid on a skewer, musubi sushi, 3 bags of jerky from a company we like, and tanghulu. I posted pictures of the sushi pizza, birria mac n cheese burrito, tanghulu, and one of our two refillable animal drinks. My wife and older son liked the musubi the best, my younger son liked the sausage skewer, and I liked the birria burrito the best (9/10 IMO).

We also spent $120 on misc toys/fun stuff for the kids (we left our 15 yr old daughter, my 5 yr old son, and 3 yr old daughter at home) and my wife. All out the door with tickets, parking, food, and fun stuff for the family, we spent about $450ish, which was honestly not far off from my budget.

Weather was nice today, not too hot and kinda windy. We also got there when it opened at 1: parking was good and lines were good for the first hour-hour and a half. Lines started getting long at around 3 but they moved pretty quickly with the exception of the sushi pizza line

Was it pricey? Yup. Was it worth it as a one and done? Definitely IMO. The way I look at it is that all these food and toy vendors are individual small/independent businesses. They most likely pay a hefty fee to be there, so of course their food is going to be expensive to help make up for costs; so I try to think of it as supporting a bunch of small businesses.

In addition, for those that think it’s dumb to pay a fee to buy food, I also look at it this way. There were lots of different foods that you wouldn’t necessarily have easy access too and it was all in one place. For example, I had never heard of choripan and it was pretty good! Same with my birria mac n cheese burrito: it was a unique item to me that I would recommend to anyone! I’m not a huge sushi person, but the sushi pizza and sushi musubi were huge hits in my family and also unique items that I haven’t really heard of places having. They also had your run of the mill state fair type food. If you stick to those types of food, Foodieland isn’t worth it, but if you aim for more unique food that you might not find in restaurants or fairs, I think it’s worth it.

Final ratings:

Food taste: 4/5
Food price: 2.5/5
Weather: 4/5
Lines: 3/5

In summary, I would give my overall experience a 3.5/5. We all had fun and liked most of the food we got and our kiddos loved all the toys they got. It definitely helped that it wasn’t during hotter weather (which I think past events were?) as I definitely would not go to this if it was in the summer. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s 100% a good one and done experience if you’re ok with spending $ to try a bunch of stuff, but it does get pricey especially if you have more people to pay for. It also definitely is best with a group who wants to share and try the same thing.

Disclaimer: Please don’t comment dumb stuff like it’s a scam, not worth it, etc. I know alot of people here view it as a ripoff (it is expensive and it’s not meant to be an event of good deals) and don’t care for it. That’s perfectly fine and I accept that. I’m just sharing my experience for those curious. If you don’t have anything constructive to say other than “scam”, just please move on 🙂

Foodieland

Anyone going to/been to Foodieland this year? Wife and I haven’t been yet, but are thinking of going tomorrow. Is it worth it? How are the crowds and wait for food? I’ve heard it’s best to go at opening too; does anyone know how early you can go to park

Edit: Thanks for all the replies! Yes I know alot of you view it as a scam because you pay $12 to get in and $10 for parking, plus the food is a bit expensive; I knew all that before posting this and yeah I wouldn’t wanna do this on a regular basis. But the food does seem interesting (The lineup is more than just carnival/fair food plus I’m intrigued at having all the options in one spot) and the event as a whole seems interesting to check out as a one and done. I think the previous complaints about weather wont be bad since the weather isn’t bad now. Also we’ll go at opening so hopefully lines won’t be long. I’ll make a follow-up post after we go in case anyone is interested 😎

Just another vent about solicitors

Just got done a few minutes ago with yet another annoying solicitor. This gem was from SPWR (I believe at least, I’m not 100% sure).

Now I get the dude chose the unfortunate job of being a door to door salesperson. As annoying as it is, I can even tolerate a doorbell ring (though I’d rather they not come at all). What I almost flipped my shit over was after dude rang the doorbell, he stands outside for almost 3 minutes and knocks very loudly on my window that’s next to my front door (my wife was trying to rest at this point). My outdoor light is off and I have reflective adhesive on my window, so you cant see in.

At this point I knew this idiot wouldn’t leave us alone, so I open the door to talk to him, shoot down any questions he has and he still won’t leave even when I start closing the door. I was about two more sentences away from telling him to get the fuck off my front porch, but thankfully I got him to leave before that happened. Dude was super stubborn and rude…

Random question though: are there any signs for no solicitation that can be enforced by law or something? I mean I probably wouldn’t ever involve the police over something so trivial, but I’m curious to see if you guys have any methods you use to keep the solicitors away from even knocking or ringing your doorbell. These guys are just getting worse and worse!

Edit: Forgot to mention this dude was seriously trying to badmouth SMUD by asking if I was ok with our increased rates (we haven’t had any) and if I was ok with all the outages (we haven’t had any) 🤣🤣🤣 Grade A idiot man…

So I just had the weirdest glitch happen. I was doing an arcade mission and the game froze. I reset the game and when I tried to play, it started me back over at the tutorial. All my story progress apparently got reset but it kept all my dragon coin/dreamer coin/artifact upgrades? Like I just started another run and I’m still level 14 with my ooze artifact still equipped, but my lair is empty now. Anyone else had this happen? Part of me is really annoyed, but honestly part of me is fine with it because I’ve been enjoying this game alot and dont mind replaying missions, especially with my kept upgrades
