Avoiding tolls vs. vignettes

I'm planning a trip through multiple countries, where each has different rules and costs of toll roads. I was under the impression that adding a vignette will be a helpful option, but it is not. Regardless of those, the only switch is toll avoidance option.

Why having "avoiding tolls" enabled is also avoiding roads which are free for me due to a vignette?

I got myself Karoo 3. Since I didn't have any such device before I was looking for something to improve my life when it comes to easy navigation to POIs sent from phone. The feature is not the best as it requires google maps to be the middleman for my geocaching app, but it works so I can live with that.

But the navigation is another story...
Regardless of the profile I choose I get terrible navigation from Karoo.

  1. Regular profile for road ride has no problem to ignore Bike lanes (or any bike infrastructure) and push you into a 3-lane stroad.
  2. Gravel and Trail profiles work the same for me - in both cases I'm pushed into the most unused paths that no cyclist is using. (See photo)
2.5. To make things worse, when you have an option to go a nice side-street, these profiles will force you to go through small narrow paths next to this street - not only is that not faster, it's bigger distance.

I accepted the faith, but maybe there is a way to improve this navigation without having to plan routes in-before? I'm looking for a komoot type experience, where the navigation has a reasonable street-bike lane-gravel balance. I changed the .xml of the map file already, but that does not impact navigation of course.

Is there any extension or something that could help?
Thanks in advance
