15yo boy using Inkscape & GIMP on Linux. Any tips for freelancing?

Hey everyone!

I'm a 15yo kid from Yemen who loves graphic design. I work on an old ThinkPad T540p (i5, 8GB RAM, SSD) running Linux.

Since I can't afford Adobe software, I use GIMP and Inkscape for everything. I really want to start freelancing to help myself out, build a portfolio, and hopefully save up for a better Laptop in the future.

Do you have any tips for a beginner using open-source tools? How can I get my first small client or make my portfolio look good without Adobe?

Thanks a lot!

My Homescreen in my modern dumb phone

I just wanted to share my homescreen on my de-googled Samsung Galaxy A13 5G. It's minimal and looks good. I love it and wanted to share it with you so you can rate it out of 10 😁

How I made my Android phone so dumb with ADHD

Hi everyone,

I am an ADHD 15 years old boy who always tries to focus on his future and leave bad habits. One of the things that I struggled with is my phone, I was too addicted to it that my average screentime was 12hrs a day!! I searched so much to make my phone as dumb as possible and I tried too many launchers, apps, apps blockers, and many other things. But I will give you in a quick way how to make you phone dumb and functional: (sorry for any mistake in my english because I am from Yemen and I am not so good in English)

First: Delete all the apps that doesn't benifit you

This the first things you must do. As an ADHDer, I was getting distracted with literlly any app was on my phone. If you wanted to delete bloatware, you must have android 11+ on your phone and install Shizuku + Canta app (this is an app available in play store or F droid that can help you delete apps if you turn on shizuku). You will open Shizuku and activate it with wireless debugging in Developer Options. After you activate it, open Canta and choose the apps you want to delete.

Second: Install a minimalist launcher

After you finish deleting apps, you need a minimalist launcher that is text-based launcher. I found the best minimalist launcher that you can use, it's free, opensource, and lightweight. It's called InkOs, it's so similar to the Light Phone 3 and it has so many features (you can see the photo to see how the launcher look like)

Link of the launcher:

Third: Some setting you need to use

I suggest you to use greyscale in your phone, it makes your phone so boring to use. If you have some apps you want to limit, I recommend using Android digital wellbeing app that comes with the phone, limit the apps with it and make a person you know set a password for you and tell him never give you a password except if you have a so important thing to do

Optional steps:

If you have a Samsung phone, use good lock modules (or finelock if your phone doesn't support good lock) and customize you phone and make it so minimalist

Also, try to use opensource apps as possible, they are free and lightwight for any phone. Some apps I recommend are: Flux, this is an app that you can make in it workspaces and put in them habit trackers, events, progreds tracker, todo, and many other things. NewPipe, this is a youtube app that doesn't have shorts in and it's so minimal. AntennaPod, this is an amazing podcasts app.

Note: you can find all these apps in F-Droid

Any Questions ;)
