I was just offered a teaching position at Western branch primary school. I currently live on Long Island New York. Does anybody have any insight into teaching here? I'm ready for a change and a new adventure and I've heard a lot of good things about teaching in Virginia, but I wanna make sure the school is worth it before I uproot my whole life and move. I was offered a teaching position in Chesapeake VA and I am debating on taking it. I applied to many positions here on long island with no calls back. My parents are selling our house in their divorce and I barely make enough to cover rent here at my current position in PreK.
I am terrified to move states especially because I've lived on long island my whole life. I have heard many good things about VA and many NY teachers moving there and loving it.
Is there anything I should know about VA before moving? I am a single female moving with just my cat. Im nervous about making friends and also that there might be major changes that i am unaware of. I am aware of no unions and the right to work state. Im not in a union right now so i feel it might not be a big change to me anyway.

I am looking to move to VA from NY, and I am interested mostly in the Richmond area but honestly I am going in blindly based on research I'm finding online. I see a lot of people say that it really matters where you teach in VA. After the research I have done, I'd rather stay in the Richmond or possibly Virginia Beach area. Not too interested in D.C area.
I already applied to two jobs in the Chesterfield district. I've heard mixed reviews on this area.
Anyone willing to point me in some kind of direction? Im looking for elementary and literacy positions (if this helps guide your suggestions).

I am constantly finding hair in my food lately. Probably the last 4 months or so. I literally just found a piece in my sushi just now and I can't take it anymore. I had to stop to write this.
