No pressure signs here amirite? By the end of a 12rd rapid string muzzle velocity goes from 2800fps to >3000fps.
Club day at Bisley yesterday, we did 1000yds in the morning and 600yds in the afternoon.
Format was 2 sighters and 10 to count twice at both ranges, for a maximum score of 100.20 at each range.
Targets were NRA (UK) standard, so at 600 the bull ring is 1.14MOA, and the 5 ring 1.9MOA. At 1000yds they are 1.5 and 2.4MOA respectively.
Rifle is a 26" barrelled 308 Tikka M55, in a 10 twist. Test groups show I can put 15 rounds of Hornady Black 155 into a 0.9MOA group. muzzle velocity was about 2760fps, with an ES of around 30-40 (I didn't pay exact attention).
Wind was 7mph left to right, gusting 12mph.
And oh was it brutal. At 1000 my elevation dispersion was around 3MOA, but my Windage was easily 15-20MOA, it was brutal. I came third last, behind everyone with a 6.5 Creedmoor, with a total score of 78.0.
Coming into the afternoon I was firmly decided on needing a new rifle, and then the magic happened - V-bull after 5 after V-bull, as the partner I was with, having put in that sort of a performance at 1000yds and coming in second, struggled to hit better than a 4 for his first six shots, meanwhile I shot 98.9, meaning 9 of my shots fell within the bull and only two were outside the 5 ring, taking me to second place at 600.
I'll take that score all day!
Looking at my ballistics, my bullets were maybe 15fps supersonic at 1000yds, if that, and I was absolutely at the mercy of the wind. At 600 I was able to make semi reasonable wind calls.
So I ask you r/longrange: do you think this is a skill issue, or an equipment issue?
Sorting out my Grandfather's stuff and we found this knife - 9.5" blade, 3/8" wide. Not sharp on the edge, but a very sharp point.
Any idea what, or how old it is?
The powder you've already heard about, the primers and brass were nothing special in terms of bargain.
The bullets came in at £8 a box because the shop was closing down. Kinda regret not buying the other 4000 they had on the shelf.
This is conservatively 5 years of shooting for me, so can't complain though - curious to know how long it would take some of you to burn through this much kit?
UK made 220gr bonded bullet, I developed this load for boar and it absolutely delivers. So far it's 2 for 2 dropping where they stood.
I don't shoot much of them for obvious reasons, even with a suppressor the rifle is... lively.
u/nobodyspecial506 asked, and therefore here it is. Sorry it's still only 30 seconds!
I've got myself a Lee APP Deluxe, and I want to size cast bullets on it.
Looking on Lee's website there's a bewildering array of accessories and it isn't entirely clear which ones I need..
I know I do need:
- Breech lock bullet sizer kit
- Appropriate die and punch set
But do I need a bottle adapter as well? It's photographed in the bullet sizing kit. Does the bottle adapter come with a bottle? The language on Lee's website is confusing!
Is the inverted size and fill adapter worth getting?
