What digital products to sell on Etsy right now? I pulled the actual demand-vs-competition data instead of guessing
Saw a lot of "what should I sell" posts lately, so instead of guessing I pulled real numbers this week: Etsy's own Marketplace Insights (30-day searches vs. listings), cross-checked against eRank, Pinterest and Google Trends, ranked by demand-to-competition ratio instead of raw search volume. Ran it as a 7-part pass, six ranked findings plus a correction round where I go back and kill anything that looked good but doesn't actually sell.
Revealing 2 of the 7 here:
Finding #1: "First day of school sign" is sitting at a 2.63 demand-to-competition ratio right now (171k searches / 65k listings). Typical printable keywords are under 0.05, so this isn't a small gap, it's one of the widest I've seen this quarter.
The correction that almost got past me: "Frutiger aero" had roughly 6x the ratio of anything else in the whole pass, would've been the headline finding. But Etsy's own conversion rating on it is "Very low," people search it constantly and buy almost none of it (screenshot attached). If I'd stopped at the ratio, this post would've sent people straight into a dead keyword. Ratio alone can lie to you if you don't check whether anyone's actually buying.
That's the pattern I keep running into: the number that looks best on paper is often the one you should trust least until you check it against something else.
The other 5, including a timing call on "senior 2027" that already peaked and is declining, the full keyword table, and the methodology breakdown, I'm keeping out of this post on purpose. It's a lot of tables and this isn't really the place for a data dump.
If you're tracking a different digital product idea right now, curious what you're seeing, does the "looks great until you check conversion" pattern show up for you too?
