Playstyle tips for a newer DD player?

Looking for tips on how good DDs play. I spend most of my time flanking and I find I am rarely ever able to jump a support and kill them without using my grapple, and even sometimes the grapple doesn't work because the supps are just healing each other. Sometimes I get in, get out, and hit again when I have cooldowns, but that only sometimes works.

I'm mainly curious how the flow of games goes for good DDs, how much do they dive the back vs brawling, how often they are securing kills by diving especially if they don't have someone else to dive with, etc.

Edit: I feel like my DD is the strongest when we've already gotten a pick and the enemy is backpedaling with half health while I get to just dash to each one in succession and finish them off. Prior to that, I find it easy to die and hard to kill supports solo.

Dino meta: shoot in the face or dive?

Saw a post in the main sub about how you're supposed to dive enemy supps so Dino doesn't get heals and dies, but in my limited number of games so far, it made more sense to me to pump his head full of lead. What are you all finding more success with? I can't help but feel like diving the supps gets you chomped and killed, even with a coordinated dive.

Good reliable DPS to pick up?

I'm a GM tank and supp main who has some DPS in his pocket that can contribute, but I'd like to get stronger as a DPS contributor since I feel my tanks and supps are better.

I picked up Bucky who has done well in diamond lobbies and who I think of as someone without any hard counters who can always contribute. I once straight up almost lost my team a game by running Daredevil an entire half then myself and the other diver switched and my Bucky MVP'd for the OT win. That's how big a difference there is between sweating my ass off with DD and relatively chillin with Bucky.

In case Bucky is banned (for some reason) or the other DPS is playing Bucky, who is another good DPS to pick up to complement my Bucky? Normally I'd say in cases where Bucky is countered but I can't think of any real counters for Bucky.

I'd like to ask 1) in general who is a good pick, and also 2) out of the DPS I've picked up and not truly honed yet:

  • Psylocke is probably my second best DPS and I have a good amount of time on her, but I struggle to hit all my shots on supps from behind and get the quick kill. Not sure if I just need to get better at tracking or accept I can only finish wounded enemies a lot of the time, or go with someone else.

  • Wolverine and Phoenix I can do OK with, but haven't put a lot of effort into yet. I feel like in lobbies where my team isn't rolling and they have capable supps, I struggle to get enemies to 0 and I put up like a 17/4 scoreline as an average contributor on my team at best.

  • Starlord I have no experience with, but he strikes me as someone who has always been high tier and I've seen some scary Starlords run lobbies seemingly single-handedly.

  • Or just get better at Daredevil.

Pretty new to DD and struggling. Could use a vod review!

This account is usually around diamond, and as of the vod in question was in p1 the day after the new season started, match ID 10114082628.

In this match I do a lot of bad stuff, some good stuff, overall we won but not because I was contributing much. I already know of the egregiously bad ults but would love some feedback on how to improve my DD from this vod!

Edit: anyone willing to review the vod?

New to Daredevil, could use some tips!

I'm a flex player which means I usually play tank or supp in GM games. I have a diamond account where I want to solidify 2 DPS to add to my roster, and I feel I do well in plat with DD and below average in diamond.

First, is he a "feast or famine" character, assuming you're not smurfing but are adequate at that rank? I feel like sometimes the enemy team comp and/or my team's behavior make it almost impossible to succeed as a melee character, and I have to swap. An example of the latter is I will often dive the back line when my front line engages, then I want to come back to the front and deflect and get healed, but one tank has single-handedly spooked my team into backing up and leaving me alone. I know DD is considered a top tier DPS, I'm just wondering if a non-smurf can consistently carry their weight consistently regardless of how the enemy and friendly teams look.

I learned the bread and butter combo, as well as how to extend it with grapple. I usually flank, wait until my front line engages, then dive the back. When I dive the back, I either hide to re-engage once my cooldowns are back (hoping to have baited cooldowns), deflect to come back to my team and hopefully get healed, or get kills or die. Very rarely do I get a kill with the bread and butter combo without extending with grapple, unless my team is already winning the fight and cleaning up. More often than not, I'm disengaging without getting a kill, since the back line is usually full health and healing themselves when I dive, and getting a kill without grapple is so rare. I vaguely listen for enemy cooldowns before diving, but I try not to sit idle all day waiting for all of them. If I can't find good positioning to flank and I feel I'd be idle too long waiting for the opportunity, I contribute to brawling with the front line for a bit. I have a general idea that people try to use Righteous Cross in vertical/unpredictable directions to help with survivability, but I also try not to get too crazy with it because I don't want to whiff the cross.

Any tips would be appreciated!

I started playing with a group of more knowledgeable players this year and have learned so much from them that I wouldn't know where to find otherwise.

Let's compile a list, even things that may seem basic to you, to better counter enemy teams.

I'll start with examples:

  1. Invis's pull negates Wolverine and Angela kidnaps. A good Invis should be able to save their pull and nullify these two characters. The same also applies to movement abilities like when Venom tries to swing out to safety.

  2. If a Jeff is getting tons of value with his ult against your team, have Cloak fade the team or have Namor/Mag save their ult to ult where he appears.

I still see a lot of comments saying that you shouldn't be DPSing, you should be using all your cards for burst healing, etc.

All of the best support mains in the game including Sypeh play a lot more offensively (and use cards for offense) more than you'd think. Here's one particular game that is a bit of an extreme example because he's playing in a triple support game, but bro goes on straight up side quests some times to chase an enemy and keep them busy or outright kill them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTqvTnnRK3c

Some people think triple support is strictly about having triple healbots but that's not true. This team comp almost always falls apart if the other team puts out way more offensive pressure than your team, because your team has 3 healbots and low sustained DPS across the other characters, like choosing Panther as your solo DPS as opposed to a Punisher. If you're playing triple support, that actually frees you up to be far more aggressive offensively, and you should or you will lose.

I'm a GM Gambit main and I diff almost every Gambit I play against. This isn't because I'm good but because most Gambits are bad and healbotting 90% of the time. Most games, I end up with noticeably less healing than my co-support, but far more finals and the MVP.

I also see comments saying "I pretty much never use F > E and it's useless" and that's not true. My main bread and butter combo is F > shift > right click > E, which is huge for finishing off wounded enemies or scaring off or outright killing divers with some left clicks.

For everyone still finishing games with little to no finals, I recommend you try playing more aggressive and you will win way more often once you get it down.
