RANK 900 to Diamond 1

Either im just washed or the worst player ever.

No im not kidding, ive gone from rank 900 to diamond 1 and i cant recover.

Im an eternity cap main, ive hit rank 1 cap in the world multiple times, everything was fine until season 7-8.

I peaked rank 942 in the world during s8 launch, and since then ive been going on this awful losing streak, eventually hitting diamond 1.
I climbed down probably over a 2-3 week period. I wasnt just rage queuing either- i always stop after 2-3 losses, which made my playtime about less than an hour every day.
After grinding an alt account for practice up to c3, by playing cap, picking up rogue and mag, even some dps, i climbed my main back to c1 about 3 days ago, the second after hitting it i just go on another loss streak again, now im down to gm1.
With cap now being banned, i usually have to either play rogue which is fine, but i cant do as good then.
I lose 2, win 1, lose 3, win 1, im seriously convinced im either washed, or the game itself is preventing me from ranking up.

Im not some new player, my rank proves this- ive been playing since s0, over 2k hours on the game.

I dont even play with my duo anymore because i feel like im holding them back- after a week without playing with them they hit eternity.

im seriously considering quitting because of this just isnt normal. Im not having fun anymore when i just lose and lose.

What is the hardest role to duo queue with and what’s the best?

I thought about this earlier because my friend is in celestial and he was duo queuing with another and they’re both tank mains. I see and hear them struggling. It made me wonder which roles are the most difficult to duo with.

Assume that the duo isn’t in game chat, being in game chat is more than Ideal but some people just don’t want to deal with game chat.

I think having a support is better overall than a duo without a support because imo I think supports have to make the most important callouts.

I think the worst is unironically double strategist though, while you can patty cake, you can only do so much on strategist, you know.

I don’t know though what do you guys think?

I’m the most inconsistent player and it sucks

I started playing in season 1 on console. Peaked C1 80% before dropping to C3 in season 1.5. I know that’s the most “boosted season” but hey man I think it counts.

After that I kind of stopped playing for a couple of months and came back on pc. My first season playing the game, I hit gm1 two games off c3 but just couldn’t win and it was the last day of the season so I gave up and went to bed.

I’ve just been at gm3 since and can’t climb any higher mainly because I stopped trying to. Once again I try to hit c3, and get to gm1 on my main. I’m not at -29% at gm1 1 loss away from gm2 knowing full and well I won’t be able to get back to gm1.

I ended up playing on my alt which was gm3, and fell to diamond 1, almost diamond 2. I climbed back to gm3 today but by luck. I’ve lost more than 20 games these past 3-4 days and have only won like less than 10. I actually don’t know what to do. I want to hit eternity but I can’t even hit celestial. I have no clue what I’m doing wrong and it pains me. My mental has also been horrible. I’ve begun crap talking my teammates 10x more than usual. Every game I complain and it’s like I lose focus on improving and just keep getting worse. How I went from losing in gm1 to losing in diamond is beyond me.

I don’t know if I should queue on my main or just give it up.
I’ve tried posting vod reviews but nobody in this sub watches them so there’s no point to that.

What makes Hitscan Pros like Terra or SparkR different from other Hitscan Pros?

I'm watching the Rivals Playoffs, and see the best DPS Players are Hitscan players like Terra, SparkR, and Energy but the think I don't understand is what makes them better than other Pros, since at this level I feel like most Pros have good aim, positioning, and target priority so why aren't other Pros as good as Terra. I always watch these matches and never see what they do so much better than other Hitscan Pros.

How do you climb on Support solo queue?

The age old question, I know. I just wanted to ask specific to me. This is my first hero shooter, I mainly played FPS before.

  • My past seasons peaks in order have been S3 (S1), D3 (s2), GM3 (s3), GM3 (s4), C3 (s5), C3, (s6), GM1 (s7), GM2 (s8).
  • Currently I'm Diamond 3, after hitting GM2. But I'm a support main, so it's so hard to climb. I can pour my heals into people, but I, myself, can only do so much. My skill on DPS is Gold level and my skill on Tanking is Plat level.
  • I play in scrims with users who are Cel-OAA, but every time a team has me, I lose. I'm definitely not Cel+ material yet. I average GM rank and I'm the lowest there. I enjoy being coached mid-game but don't want to spend for it. Scrims are my opportunity to learn, I don't know what else I haven't noticed that I'm missing.
  • When scrimming, I notice higher ranks comm a LOT (Enemy CDs, Ult Ending, Ult Planning, Healer LOS) so I try that, but it's not enough. My positioning isn't the best but it sustains me in Diamond rank and up to at least GM2 well, but I still try to improve. It helps, but not enough to climb.
  • I used to be GM level skill, now I can't hold GM. I've been lucky to hit C3 but I don't think I'm C3 skill yet. I've played consistently, at least a few hours day until my skill depletes (I'm a college kid on break lol). I maintain level headedness, I'm not much of a rager, so no throwing.

I want to do what I can as a support and learn, but I feel so limited. Any ideas how to climb as a support? This season seems much harder and I feel at a loss.

How do you earn points with CnD?

I left my soul in this match. Pressed so many buttons at once lol. Reloaded by switching to cloak and back. Got decent finals. Minimal deaths. Got MPV which I feel like is unheard of in GM lobbies as cnd. And walked away with 22 points 😭 I’m GM1. When I play Jeff I get 22 for a regular performance. I know the higher you get the less points you get, but still, it feels like I got robbed.

What should i be doing differently? Or is that just what it is? Is a genuine question.

The Jeff pick

I saw somebody asking why do high elo players say Jeff is good and I wanna make a post about it, if somebody wants to ads things go ahead.

  1. Survability, jeff can barely die if its a good jeff, I think the highest self healing out of all the supports.

  2. Insane with dive - can heal/dmg across the map or not even this, can live in your backline with your divers and make your backline hate their life.

  3. Now a reason why it is hated in low elo lobbies.

Thats because in low elo lobbies, people dont know what the S button on their keyboard does ( I am sorry if I am too harsh ). They dont know or understand how to kite a support or a dps ult, they dont know how to survive so they need a good support ult to stay alive or they simply die because they cannot press back or use the walls for cover or even help each other stay alive.

  1. How to play if you have a Jeff?

Ult tracking, very important. Do they have a dps ult coming? Yes.

Do you have anything to counter it? If they have a starlord ult, do you have a mag ult for it? An emma ult? The other support does have ult or not?

If not, play back. Give space, play to survive, use walls for cover, help your supports stay alive and they will help you stay alive as well.

Its fine if you give some space, not the end of the world as long as you live.

There are tutorials made on youtube about ult tracking if you dont know how to do it and you want to improve on it. This is one of if not the most important things in the game and if you learn to do this, your positioning will be a lot better, the jeff pick your teammate made wont matter as much because you already know how to play the next fight before it even begins.

The game is about stalling/contesting the point so staying alive is the most important thing

If anyone wants to add anything/any other tips/information, please feel free to do it.

[Vod Request][Plat 3][PC] Rogue troubles

Platform: PC Name: BumFarto305 Code: 10357093083

Was trying to comm and ask my team what i could fix, they kept saying cap and i didn't deal with him well. I usually don't comm bc i feel like no one listens. I have the dumbest deaths with rogue because if i can't get to the supports i feel useless. My success on rogue depends on if i can get pocketed in the enemies backline and I'm trying to get more versatile.

How to go from high elo Tank to high elo DPS?

QP sucks for training and comp I practically throw if I'm not on Tank.

Edit: realised I should've specified which DPS I'm talking about. it's Dive DPS, mainly Spidey, DD and Starlord.

I am a flex player that plays whatever the team needs + switch to counter the opponent lineup if things are not working well (If enemy is playing poke I will switch to shield tank etc). I have been grinding rank for awhile now and it's a nightmare dealing with people that only blame teammates and don't even comms in game. I feel like I am talking to the team myself every single game and done my best but still lost the game.

Also, time to time I get comments from some teammate that I am dying too much? (I feel that the opponents are just full on targeting me when I am ulti-ing as punisher etc). Kindly give me pointers on anything I can do to lead the team to victory and get to GM? Thank you.

Tips to climb ranked from an employed solo queue celestial player

So I started playing rivals seriously in season 7 and usually solo queue comp till I hit celestial. I don’t consider myself to be someone who has insane mechanical skill and I work a 9-5 so I can’t grind the game super hard. I wanna share some things I wish I knew when I started for anyone who’s trying to climb up.

# 1. You can’t control your teammates (keep your mental)

If you have any presence in this community you’re aware of the age old memes of throwers and poor teammates. Whether that’s due to boosted ranks or the rivals matchmaking system I’ll leave to you, but what’s most important is you don’t let it affect your mental. Even if your teammates are underperforming there are still ways in which you can improve your own game. It’s more productive to stay cool and focus on those. Unfortunately part of solo queuing in this game is accepting you might be throwing elo in the trash can depending on the matchup. I recommend you go in just seeing how you can play better and don’t get overly emotional about elo and you will have a much better experience.

# 2. Have a flexible hero pool

This is **THE** most important part of climbing solo. As you get higher up in ranks understanding team comps and being able to fill for your OTP teammates becomes extremely important. I’m a champion Rogue main with a 60-70% win rate on the character. Part of the reason why it’s positive is because I know when to put her away. There are games where the enemy team will be playing counters (Thing, peni, heavy poke) and I know a melee character is generally gonna eat dirt there, so I swap. You should be able to react to enemy team comps on the fly.

# 3. Synergize with your team

There are also games where your team may not be aligned with your personal play style. I like to play rogue as a brawl/dive tank to disrupt back lines and take space. But some teammates that I run into don’t know how to coordinate a dive and fill the space I’m making, so I’m getting no value from my play style. If that’s the case I also switch to a more traditional front to back tank. You don’t have to know the whole roster, but at least 3 characters from each role that can be used in different situations (dive, sustain, anti-dive, ect) to **synergize** with your team is very important. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on a team with a rogue/mag combo and gambit slips through the ban phase but nobody goes gambit for the most broken team up in the game. Or if you are on dps and see your magik needs someone to dive with her to finish off kills. Being able to flex to different roles/characters to enable your teammates is key in having more success.

# 4. If you swap, swap early

This is a mistake I still see in celestial lobbies. People will be getting rolled and won’t try changing the comp until the last minute of the game. At which point you lose ult charge and aren’t coordinated for the last fight. If there’s a cap constantly in your backline go white fox. If there’s a Dino eating the frontline go Emma. These swaps should be made immediately not after you’ve lost 2 points.

# 5. Game sense

The previous 3 points roll into this one but game sense also heavily revolves around ult usage. Rivals more than any other hero shooter is an ult based game. As you climb, matches will often be decided by who gets more value out of their ults. There are several ways to use ults intelligently. The first is kiting (falling back while the enemy team dumps support ults/cds) and then responding with your own once they are out to gain an advantage. Another point is realizing not every ult has to directly result in elims. For example using Jeff ult to swallow white fox ult, or Emma’s ult to mind control starlord out of his. Kiting and using ults defensively don’t show up on the scoreboard but make massive differences in winning and losing team fights. Also, you can get away with double support ulting in metal ranks but after that those kinds of mistakes will cost you.

# 6. Realize it’s just a game

It’s no secret the rivals community is filled with toxicity. It only gets worse as you climb and sometimes I find high celestial/low eternity to be insane in that regard. Part of the reason why I’m nearing the end of my time on the game is because it takes a lot to deal with it day in day out after a full day of work. Not to mention the balancing of the game is done towards the casual player, so it can feel silly getting hyper competitive over such a poorly balanced product. Ultimately, I try my best to be uplifting in chat because I refuse to let someone on the game ruin my mood. I also don’t want to be the reason for ruining theirs. Just rmr it’s important to be kind :).

Feel free to DM me if you’d like to ask any specific questions or want more. I’d be happy to share! Godspeed.

How can i make it to celestial before season ends?

Even in the games i lose i have decent stats yet i can't get to win them i flex but im mainly playing cyclops and dd this season. How can i make it to celestial? Do i mainly play supp and hope to get carried. Do i get a good duo-trio? Bc 4 stacks and 6 stacks never work for me proven by today

u/TheOriginal999 — 4 days ago

Cyclops gave me a complete false sense of my aim skill and it’s a little depressing

I am tank main and I do genuinely like this role in any game, but I also got the drive to really improve mechanically, especially with aim, so I made another account where I only play (hitscan) dps. Right now it’s still only QP games since it’s not quite lv15 yet.

Anyway, with Cyclops it’s just straight up lobby domination almost every game I get. Aim feels crisp. Never afraid of 1v1's.

Since the idea was to improve, I also picked Phoenix a couple of games and the difference is abysmal. I am talking like 35-45% accuracy.

Now I know it’s likely because of the way the primary fire works on these characters, as I believe the Clops shoots 2 or 3 very instances of damage, a little like a pulse rifle, while Phoenix is one single hitscan projectile.

I still do not understand how crazy the difference feels. I do feel like my aim with Cassidy in OW is decent in comparison.

Anyone got the same issue?

u/Avongrove — 5 days ago

What do you do when the enemy bands counters to dive?

I recently had a game where an enemy team banned every type of counter to dive, and they picked a heavy dive comp and we couldn’t do anything about it. The tanks were pretty much useless the whole match because the healers were too busy pattycakeing whole time just to stay alive.
I’m not even blaming anyone. I just genuinely don’t know what to do in that situation.

Rivals 101: How to Improve

Welcome back to 1v1 101!

It’s been a hot minute since my last entry to the little guides, and that’s because of life, among other things. But, it works out fine, since this is gonna be the last one! You may have noticed something up with the “1v1” portion, and that’s because what my last little post is about, is not limited to 1v1s. I went over them pretty throughly, I think. As long as you can analyze the matchup, the Neutral and Punish game state, have good Target Priority, and know how to force or persuade people to face you in a duel… that’s all I have to say. Congratulations! You’ve all passed the 1v1 101 course with flying colours! For my final lecture, I’m tackling something different. Something bigger than just a 1v1, so this is the one (and only), Rivals 101.

“How to Improve”

It’s a nagging question that is on practically everyone’s mind, especially when it comes to a competitive, online PvP game like Rivals. You all have had good games and bad games, and I’m willing to bet that most of you have also watched high level play, be it from watching replays of the top players on the leaderboard, from a YouTuber or a streamer, or whatever. After all, if you want to get better, no better way to do so than emulate what the best players in the game are doing, right?

Ehhh, kind of. Watching high level players gameplay can be very helpful towards improving yourself, but it’s more important that you understand what is happening in the first place. If you’re a brand new, fresh install player. Don’t watch high level players to get better. At least, not yet. What should you do instead? Just play the game.

Build a fundamental understanding of how the game works. Play on all of the maps a few times. Try out all three roles, then try the different archetypes of each role. Try out Daredevil for dive, then Mr Fantastic for brawl, and then Hela for poke. Then go to Vanguards. Try Venom for dive, then Thor for brawl, then Strange for anchor. Then go to Strategists. Try Invisible Woman for main healers, then try Mantis for off healers, then try White Fox for offensive support. Build at least an okay understanding of how the basics of the game works. Once you’ve done that, I recommend you PICK YOUR MAINS.

This is important for deciding how to improve, because every character gets better in different ways. Decide what archetype suits how you like to play the best. You like getting into the thick of it? Brawl characters are your thing. Like keeping your team alive and well? Sounds like you prefer support. Like going in deep and aiming for those key picks? Dive sounds like your cup of tea. Decide which one you like best, and make your main focus, not your ONLY focus.

If you like playing support, for example, don’t play JUST support. Have a few characters in each role of different archetypes that you plan to get good at. For example, I have 3 Duelists, 3 Vanguards, and 3 Strategists that I spend most of my time playing. Star Lord, Iron Fist, and Hela for Duelists. Strange, Emma, and Hulk for Vanguards. Luna, White Fox, and Jeff for Strategists.

You might notice that they all have different archetypes. Hela is a long range poker while Star Lord is a flanker, and Iron Fist is a hybrid of dive and brawl. Strange is a shield tank, while Hulk is a brawl/dive hybrid tank, and Emma is a shield/brawl hybrid tank. Luna is a main healer, while White Fox is an offensive brawl healer and Jeff is… kind of weird. He’s like an off-support, but he’s not really… I don’t know. He’s Jeff. My point is, I try to have my preferred spread be pretty well rounded to cover all my bases. If my team is in need of a long range poke, I can go Hela, but if they need a diver or a flanker, I can go Star Lord instead. If my team needs a shield tank, I can go Strange. But if they need a brawl tank, I can go Emma instead. If my team needs a main healer, I can go Luna, but if the enemy team has too many divers, or my team needs help pushing to take ground, I can go White Fox.

Having a good spread of preferred characters, both in roles AND in archetype, will make you a far more versatile player, and will make you better at the game in the long run because you’re learning how to play every type of character. You can play both a poke Duelist and a dive Duelist. You can play both a shield Vanguard and a brawl Vanguard, so on so on. You’re learning not only the strengths of all the types of characters, but also their weaknesses. You know what this type of character struggles with, so when you face that character on the enemy team… you know how to counter them. But of course, knowledge is just one part of the equation. There is a bit of more mental… psychological things to address too. And this is one that I’m particularly adamant about:

When you die, and you WILL die… TAKE. RESPONSIBILITY.

This is something the Rivals community as a whole seems to struggle with. When you die, that’s YOUR fault. Sure, maybe you couldn’t do anything to stop it. Maybe the enemy was using an overtuned character. But guess what? Your death is still your fault. This is possibly THE most important part to improving at anything, not just Rivals. You NEED to take accountability for your mistakes and deaths, because those are how you learn. If you write off every death as “not your fault”, then you’re NEVER going to get better.

When you die, stop and think for a moment. Think about HOW you died, and what you COULD have done to prevent it? Did you get jumped by a Black Panther? You should have been paying more attention to your surroundings. Did you get sniped by a Hawkeye? You should’ve tried to use cover better so you weren’t exposed to his sight line as much. And yes. Sometimes when you die, it IS absolute bullshit, and you couldn’t have done anything to prevent it. But still… take accountability anyways. Spidey pulled you five hundred miles away from the map and you fell to your death? Now you know to not position yourself near that ledge. Luna come from around a corner out of the blue to freeze you and instantly erase your health? Now you know what the enemy Luna is up to, and you can be prepared for it next time.

Taking responsibility for your deaths and acknowledging your mistakes in what you could have done better is the simplest way to improve, and yet, it’s also the hardest way, because it forces you to take a hit to your pride. This can be hard to do sometimes, but if you really want to get better, then you have to do it. Who do you think is going places, the guy who is making up excuses to defend his pride, or the guy who gets his ass kicked and starts taking notes? So class, it’s time to pull up your big-boy pants, swallow your egos, and take the L. There’s no better teacher than defeat.

There’s one more thing I want to discuss, and it’s a word you’ve no doubt heard thrown around the community before. Gamesense. What is gamesense? In summary, it’s a players ability to analyze the state of the game and use that knowledge to make educated decisions on their next course of action. If your team is down four people, good gamesense will dictate that you should retreat and regroup with your team. If the enemy team has all of their Vangaurds dead, good gamesense will dictate that your team should push in while the enemy frontline is crippled.

So how does one access all this good gamesense? It may seem a bit lackluster of an answer, but… time. Gamesense comes with time. Just play the game. The more time you put into the game, the better your gamesense will naturally get, and I also recommend you do so against real players in Quickplay… most of the time, Quickplay has the occasional bot match for whatever stupid reason… anyways. Real players are always better to practice on than bots. Players make on-the-fly decisions like you do. They can outplay you. They can make mistakes like you. They can adapt to your playstyle and make an effort to counter it. A bot? Has a predetermined objective every single time. They don’t adapt, they don’t change. They’re pitifully easy to kill, and relying on just them to improve will only hinder your progress.

You won’t even notice you’re developing better gamesense as you put time into the game. You’ll just gradually get better at decision-making as you go. It’s a subconscious process, but you’ll eventually be able to see the results clear as day.

(There is also aim, but… a lot of it is the same as developing good gamesense. Don’t bother with an aim tutorial, because everyone aims differently. I do a weird thing with point and click characters like Hela, Strange, and Luna, where I aim at the ground… and flick to my target, then reset my crosshair to the ground? I don’t know why, I just… do it. I don’t do it on melee or tracking characters like Star Lord, Iron Fist, or Jeff, but it works for me, so I don’t question it. Just play the game, your aiming style will develop and gradually improve like gamesense does. There is aimlabs, but again… it isn’t necessary to do, just playing the game will develop your aim just fine.)

So, I think I have said my piece. I had a lot of fun making the 1v1 101 guides, and I had even more fun reading all the comments and discussing with you all. So I just want to say thank you guys. You’ve all graduated!

Thank you for coming to my final TED Talk.
