I used to be a gm tank player and I was able to even carry in my rank in gm2 or gm1 just one or two seasons ago. And now I made a new account this season to learn Magik and start playing the game from a lower rank after a break from playing on my main, and I can’t even make it to diamond…

I know we won the game and it was almost a stomp, but I felt like the lobby was better than me and I couldn’t tell what exactly I was doing or happening most of the time. I’d like if someone can explain to me how to read a game, and win conditions and all of these things, also there are other things like taht I was trying to peel, but their Magik was still popping off, does this mean I failed in my job? Was I playing too passive? I’m not sure about these things tbh, and this lobby was wierd for me.

I didn’t really play much since last season and while I had far many hours in season 7 and 7.5 I’m barely playing comp nowadays. But I’m not sure if I’m completely washed or not. I used to be mid to high gm last season but I stopped maybe 2 weeks before the season was over. My mechanics are kinda rusty and I feel easily tilted unlike my usual.
In this game I want to identify What was I doing wrong first round? I know we didn’t do bad in total but I felt actually just tilted and dying too many times without being able to clearly identify why. I need help to know what exactly am I doing wrong on Emma and thing because I felt really useless and was barely keeping up with the game, and I tried to shut down the enemy Thor but clearly missed many grabs on Emma and wasted recourses. Also I don’t exactly know what exactly changed but I feel like second was far easier.
This is not a vod where I lost, but I’m putting this one because it was the most questionable of my wins to me, and I felt like I could’ve actually lost because of my own performance and I couldn’t exactly tell why.
Also I want general advice to improve and to read the game better not just about the vod, but about more of game sense, and what to focus on to automatically improve over time instead of repeating the same mistakes. Also I would like some general vanguard advice to help and climb to celestial this season or even the later season, like learning a new tank or something. As clear in the vod I wasn’t very comfortable with thing or Emma because I was pretty much a strange and magneto two trick last season and peaked at gm1 on other account.

I’m a strange-mag main, and I can flex to Emma and thing currently. But I can’t say that I have enough experience on both thing and Emma, and sometimes I even miss my abilities on them to the point I feel tilted. I always ban groot and I hate going against him with passion. But I feel like it’s time for me to learn him, because I would like to play a new tank, and also because I wanted to aim for celestial this season. Last season I had bad luck with many games - and some of them I was just horrible tbf - and that’s why my win rate was negative despite having a decent amount of MVP/SVP on mag and strange and characters that don’t usually get ace easily. This season I feel like playing mag and strange is less effective somehow, as if some games I just don’t know how to get value beside controlling space, and hoping my team does better than the enemy.
I was also thinking to learn either cap or venom, because sometimes I get a dive player on my team who won’t swap if he’s doing bad, and my inflexibility in tanking doesn’t particularly help in these scenarios.
I’d like suggestions for guides or streamers to watch maybe.
Also I do have another account in diamond 2 or 3 I believe and I played there few games with cap, and I got flamed twice for being useless, even though I felt like I was stalling cart and harassing backline. Also I only played cap on defence, because I know that I need to stall, but I genuinely have no idea what to do on offense. Also another thing was that sometimes I felt like I’m successfully getting the attention of 2-3 people for a decent amount of time, but my team is still losing the fight, or barely keeping up.

Last season I had a high number of hours in comp and peaked at gm1 fully solo. Now I feel like it’s easy for a match to sour for me, like being forced more than once to counter swap and stuff like that. Also too many people on alt accounts even if not smurfing, like I had a guy forcing iron man and almost doing negative and I didn’t even need the match to end to know he was on alt account.
I feel like I’m going to peacefully play practice vs ai until 8.5 and then see if I can actually get celestial this season.
My account is open so feel free to vod review any games if you like. I feel like too many games are just lost before they start, or just after the first team fight, because my team makes mistakes that my understanding to the game is not enough to cover. Like having a Jeff agaisnt a bp and I’m playing the thing, but his positioning, and coordination with the other support, both, doesn’t help to to peel effectively without the frontline collapsing and more like this.
Also after some games I had the thought of just throwing after first round, or if game is not going good, because I almost lost every single close game that I played. But this is so bad that I won’t do it, but it’s still so annoying to see the matchmaking like this sometimes.
