Before modern Poker, there was Ferbli, The historical Austro-Hungarian bluffing game. Anyone want to try it?

Hey everyone,
I coded a multiplayer web version of Ferbli (Farba), a forgotten European card game that served as a precursor to poker.
It’s played with a 32-card deck, but the core strategy is identical: heavy bluffing, blind raises, and intense betting rounds.
If you love poker history or just want to test your skills, drop a comment and I'll DM you the link to play!

Austro-Hungarian group of soldiers playing cards. Is there anyone here who knows and loves the card game Ferbli?

There is a huge chance the men in this photo were playing exactly that. For generations, Ferbli (Ferbl, Farba) was a massive part of everyday life across the Monarchy, from frontline trenches to grand Vienna and Budapest cafes, played with the classic William Tell deck.
Sadly, it's mostly a forgotten piece of history today.
Because I love this game and its heritage, I’ve studied its rules and actually built an online version to bring it back to life.
I’m looking for passionate players, history enthusiasts, or just curious minds who want to test it out and get some tables going.
Drop a comment below if you want the link to play!

[Web] Farba Club — A forgotten Austro-Hungarian card game from the 1700s, now playable online with full social features. Ferbli (vintage) + Farba (modern variant). Free to play, looking for real feedback!

Game Title: Farba Club

Playable Link: www.farbaclub.com

Platform: Mobile Web, Browser

Description: I've been building Farba Club, an online multiplayer card game based on a real vintage card game from the Austro-Hungarian Empire era — played since around the 1700s with traditional Hungarian 32-card decks.

Two games in one:

  • Ferbli — the original vintage version, dating back to the 1700s. Three rounds of betting with unique mechanics: blind betting, Vizi, Besszer, Kosta, and Visszahív. Deep strategy, deception, and bluffing.
  • Farba — the modern variant of Ferbli, evolved from the same roots. Faster-paced, still skill-based, still uses the traditional Hungarian deck.

Both are skill-based card games, not gambling. There is no real money involved — ever. The in-game currency (Farbs) resets every session and has zero real-world value.

What's in the game:

  • 3 room types: Public rooms (open to all) - Farba and Ferbli, League rooms (ranked, ELO-based matchmaking across 6 tiers: Bronze → Elite) - Farba, and Private rooms (invite-only with a secret key — great for friends) - Farba and Ferbli
  • ELO rating system with 6 competitive league tiers
  • Trophy system: Regular trophies + 60 Imperial Trophies inspired by Austro-Hungarian history — historical figures, iconic buildings, and cultural symbols, earned through lifetime milestones
  • Full social layer: Friends, a community Wall, player profiles, notifications, and in-game chat
  • 2–6 (Farba) and 2-7 (Ferbli) players per table
  • Academy section with full rulebooks + interactive practice mode

Current status: The game is still in active development. I'm posting here because I genuinely want to know:

  1. Does the multiplayer hold up under real concurrent players?
  2. Is the game fun and understandable to someone who's never played before?
  3. What breaks, what's confusing, what's missing?

Honest, brutal feedback is very welcome. This is a real historical game that deserves a proper digital home — I want to get it right.

Play it here (free, no download): www.farbaclub.com

Thanks for giving it a shot!

Free to Play Status:

  • [x] Free to play
  • [ ] Demo/Key available
  • [ ] Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays with [TT] in the title)

Involvement: I create the game alone.
