Scape Progression

I was looking back at some pictures to share with a friend and thought a little progression post would be fun. My first aquascape that grew into paludaruims thanks to this group and eventually some terrariums. I’ve had so much fun with this hobby! Thanks to everyone who inspires me with their posts here. Picture one was my very first and they go in order from there (hopefully) 😂💚

Bioactive Bowl

Bowl built four weeks ago, it’s had a little time to settle in. Everything is super happy!

Baby tooth moss —Plagiomnium cuspidatum
Dwarf baby tears — Hemianthus callitrichoides
Bog bean — Menyanthes trifoliate
Wood fern — Dryopteris carthusiana
American pennywort — Hydrocotyle americana

Maybe one or two other mosses (??)
Just a plant bulb in a desk lamp for light
Distilled water for misting

This is my first jump into a full terrarium from my usual aquarium/paladariums and i love the simplicity 💚💚💚

Critters:
Springtails
Several species of isopods

Northern hardwood conifer swamp

Homage to my beautiful state of Michigan! New technique for me with a water wicking fabric background to keep the wall moss happy, and my first experience with club moss-it’s so adorable (tiny trees) fingers crossed i can do right by it. This is the first time I’ve use birch paper, I hope the moss grows in and makes the edges look less abrupt.

All species are native to our northern hardwood conifer swamps (except the dwarf baby tears) the species combo is an indicator of a healthy ecosystem. Rocks are of course from Lake Michigan and include some 30 million year old petoskey fossils.

Plant List:
• Baby tooth moss — Plagiomnium cuspidatum
• Rock polypody — Polypodium virginianum
• Dwarf baby tears — Hemianthus callitrichoides
• Haircap moss — Polytrichum commune
• Partridge berry — Mitchella repens
• Bog bean — Menyanthes trifoliata
• Wood fern — Dryopteris carthusiana
• Prickly tree club moss — Dendrolycopodium dendroideum
• American pennywort — Hydrocotyle americana
• Flat-branched tree club moss — Dendrolycopodium obscurum

New technique for me with a water wicking fabric background to keep the wall moss happy, and my first experience with club moss-it’s so adorable (tiny trees) fingers crossed i can do right by it. This is the first time I’ve use birch paper (dried in the oven so it won’t mold) I hope the moss grows in and makes the edges look less abrupt.

*sustainable harvest, no species of conservation concern
