Two month update
Two months in and I’ve made some slight changes. Extended the waterfall, and now the plants and moss have really taken. Any tips welcome on where to improve. Hope to get some vampire crabs next month.

It appears as the substrate barrier I tried to use to keep water and substrate separate did not work very well and now my soil is soaked, is this ok or do i need to take down and restart?
I'm going to need to glue some rocks and wood in place and I want to know what type of superglue would be good and non-toxic
I started out with converting an Ikea cabinet into a greenhouse. Then I found out that I could turned it into a terrarium. Then it turned into a rabbit hole where I learned about Vivarium and Paludarium. I saw so many beautiful builds. One day I learned about vampire crabs and decided to build one myself.
This is a 36x18x18 tank. I wanted a 36x24x18 but I couldn't find anywhere and had to settle. It was such a fun experience. Maybe I will build more mini ones in the future.
So I completed the main scaping of this tank around 5 days ago, added plants 4 days ago and added springtails/isopods 2 days ago. I am seeing all this mold looking growth and the plants look terrible with the heart fern having some small leaves completely curl in and the button fern turning brownish. Is this normal distress where everything rebounds or is something wrong?
Can give more info if needed. Thanks!
I wish the Fluval Aquasky can be synced together with sound to create this effect for real and not post edit. I like it regardless.
I set up my big tank today. I have these little dudes (pictured). Once I incorporate more flora, what amphibian would best feature in this arrangement? Would a toad be happy here? And finally, what other species would get along with my present company?
Hello guys, if im building a paludarium, in my water feature do need a filter? And if i have a pump that creates a waterfall does this count as a filtration?
The hobby allows us to be so creative. Always a work in progress.
The setup usually has a thick synthetic window screen over this so soil doesn't fall through. I have to maintain a high water level because there will be nano fish so I can't afford to just lower the water level. So I thought a air barrier (egg crate) would be the best possible option because it's not even touching water or touching anything that would wick water towards it but yet it's still very damp. its wicking so much moisture it's leaving my soil nearly saturated.
I have pretty much finished what i want to do with this paludarium, just need to get my land animal. I have 6 Silverado Endlers, and 5 Neocardina Shrimp and they have been thriving for a couple weeks! I ended up getting the final batches of my plants at Lowes and washed them thoroughly.
I still am stumped on what to get land wise, I know vampire crabs would do amazing in here, but I keep changing my mind. Some days it’s a crocodile skink i want, some days it’s dart frogs and mourning geckos.
If you guys want to recommend something I am all ears!
Im happy with how my paludarium is coming along and the tank id maturing very nicely.
Homage to my beautiful state of Michigan! New technique for me with a water wicking fabric background to keep the wall moss happy, and my first experience with club moss-it’s so adorable (tiny trees) fingers crossed i can do right by it. This is the first time I’ve use birch paper, I hope the moss grows in and makes the edges look less abrupt.
All species are native to our northern hardwood conifer swamps (except the dwarf baby tears) the species combo is an indicator of a healthy ecosystem. Rocks are of course from Lake Michigan and include some 30 million year old petoskey fossils.
Plant List:
• Baby tooth moss — Plagiomnium cuspidatum
• Rock polypody — Polypodium virginianum
• Dwarf baby tears — Hemianthus callitrichoides
• Haircap moss — Polytrichum commune
• Partridge berry — Mitchella repens
• Bog bean — Menyanthes trifoliata
• Wood fern — Dryopteris carthusiana
• Prickly tree club moss — Dendrolycopodium dendroideum
• American pennywort — Hydrocotyle americana
• Flat-branched tree club moss — Dendrolycopodium obscurum
Critters:
Springtails
Looking for lighting options for my first paludarium build. Its an 18x18x36 and the aquarium and terrarium lights that fit the top just dont have enough intensity to satisfy the plants I want in the bottom. Ideally, I'd really like the light to have a 'ramp up/down' feature to turn the light on/off slowly(over like 20 minutes?), to simulate sunrise and sunset as well, not just on and off.
Custom built 30x24x15 paludarium with waterfall feature and a pond
One or two out of the 100 i put in there always end up drowning. Send this poor guy thoughts and prayers please 🙏🏼
Just wanna show my newly established 60x30x30cm tank (2 weeks old)! Have added some ramshorn snails and blue jellies in the water section (pardon me for the 1 dead shrimp), and Jupiter isopods and orange springtails in the land section. There's also white springtails and dwaft white isopods, though I've not seen them again since day 1.
I'll be waiting for the tank to fully mature and have the CUC population up and running before introducing vampire crabs!
Is there anything I should potentially look out for or any actionables for me to do/ not to do at this point? Please let me know. Thanks in advance! 🙏
This is after a water topoff, they are everywhere in this tank lol
So, I have a couple of nanotanks from about 20 liters. I want to place them on one long "table, furniture, cabinet".. name it..
I have very little space so I can't take in some huge special aquarium furnite
Besides, I want both nanotanks next to each other, and I want them quite low, like a dressoir. I've been looking and looking around for ages and ages and I'm getting tired of not finding what I want because my project are stagnated by not having the right furniture to put them on.
I had the same problem with my 60 liter tank, I recently had to empty it and moved it to the floor. In about 2 weeks my new aquarium furniture will arrive and the whole process has to be done again.
The whole problem is that it needs to support the weight of the aquariums.
I've tried so much, to much to summ up. So any tip is welcome and I'll filter the usable ones out.
Does Ikea have anything?
I was looking at Trofast kind of things.
I'm trying to find some stable wood furniture, it has to be low like 50 cm high, 60 cm high max.
Some things that are important:
I'm not able to construct or modify anything.
I'm creative though.
I currently live in Europe.
I don't have much space.
Thank you for your help, much appreciated.
