When cribbing the affiliations for the custom school do I list them in historical context.
I.E. the Sparrow school affiliations would be Crane, Sparrow, Three Man Alliance, and Minor Clan Alliance depending on era. The Hida Pragmatist would be Crab, Badger, Scorpion(all hail the pinche alliance), and Boar.
Or is it just fluff?
Thinking about trying to convert the old 1e Ancestor Doji Suzume ability of Rolling one more die on a lore/social/oratory skill check but the gm rolls a secret die on a 1 or a 10 the characters remarks will be interpreted in a way directly opposite to their intent (for example, a witty remark might lead to your expulsion from your clan). To make matters worse, at least half of the listeners will usually find the unintended meaning of the character's words extraordinarily brilliant. Either as the primary school ability(dinking around with the custom school creation rules for funsies) or as a passion/ anxiety hybrid.
Making it a school ability maintains the long tradition of the Sparrow Clan being delightfully bad.
As a passion anxiety thing i would just homebrew a rule that if you pick the passion you default to the anxiety.
Been slow building a NEW5R campaign. One of my NPCs is a Soshi who is quite good at the whole sneaky git Scorpion thing but finds it boring, too easy, and would rather stuff their face with Mochi and read Pillow Books. Can't decide if I want to fully commit and make them Junshin as well. I generally don't get a lot of Scorpion PCs in general so I don't know if it will be more effective or too gimmicky.
Anyone else annoyed that we got fire as our sub element and not lightning?
With the game Battle for Toshi Ranbo coming out and its completely unhinged premise of all seven clans fighting over a place that realistically only 4 clans can access without issue got me thinking of all the goofy l5r things over the years.

Since thorns is dead and buried I was thinking about a Flay/Rupture build. How badly does the cube lock barbs out of builds?
Is bonestorm infimist viable for play or will I run into the problem that I have with Druid where if i don't get the one unique it won't work?
Was planning on running a silly Dire Werewolf build this season but with the loss of airidah's inexorable will and all of the necessary aspects being deleted/turned into uniques that don't drop til torment I'm not sure if I can make it work. Is it too much farm now?
