Animal health

Hi, all. I can't tell if this is a genuine concern or what, but I have a few things that I'm worried about. I should also specify that I likely have OCD, so if some of this seems irrational, that would be why. I did something dumb the other day by touching a moldy dish and forgetting to wash my hands — got advice from many people, including people who work at a vet. People told me that if they didn't show signs of being sick or behavioral changes, then it was probably okay.

Today, their water dish might've been exposed to cleaning products, so I threw it in the dishwasher alongside their food bowls. However, we also had a moldy blender in the dishwasher a few days ago that wasn't completely cleaned off, even by the time that the cycle was done. I found the blades in the place where I usually would We have it on a 3 hour sanitize run, but I still don't know if it's safe to use the bowls I put in there earlier. Would a sanitize cycle remove any cleaning product or mold spores?

My parents also have an odd habit of putting the bottom of their dog dishes in the plastic container we keep their food in. They put the bottom of the bowls on the floor everyone keeps their shoes on, and then puts the bottom of the bowl on their food. They also stack the bowls, so the inside of one might be touching the outside of another.

Their food bag is kept in the garage and used to refill the plastic container we have in our entry way. Our garage contains lots of fumes that can be toxic to dogs, namely gasoline and various types of fuel. I'm worried that maybe it’s contaminated their food somehow? My dog was in our garage for like 10 minutes earlier today, and I'm worried she might've gotten sick. She seems fine and is playing like usual though.

My dad put a plastic scooper in the container that we use for their food. He hasn't washed it ONCE and has been using it for cat food for years, but our cat passed a while ago from an unknown sickness. I'm worried it's going to contaminate their food.

I'm also worried about mold spores. Does anyone know if putting my pets bowls in boiling water will sanitize them and remove anything on there? If I do this, do I still need to wash them with soap afterwards? I'm concerned that the mold spores on my floor will maybe spread up the bowl or something. I don't know, I just don't wanna make my pets sick from it.

I feel so bad, but when I had to leave for an hour and a half earlier, I put my dog in my room and didn't have the time to give him a water dish. Since my dogs water dish was in the dishwasher at this point, I got a random bowl to fill with water but somehow it still had soap suds in it even after being put in the dishwasher? I'm on a time crunch, so I do my best to rinse it out, but there's still a couple bubbles. I think they were air bubbles, but I'm still worried that I didn't do a good job.

Last couple things — my dad touched a chlorine bottle and came inside without washing his hands. Is this harmful to my dogs somehow? Will it spread, is this something I need to look out for? Also, my dog licked the floor that I used cleaning products on hours ago. I'm sort of worried.

Household products?

Hey, all. I use Mr. Clean multi surface cleaner, Weiman stainless steel cleaner & polish, Resolve Ultra Pet carpet cleaner, Windex, and Bissell Pet & Pro Urine Elininator. I was wondering if anyone knows if these cleaning products are safe for my dogs and cat? If they are, what are some alternatives?

I also use clorox pods for cleaning my bathroom, diluted lemon scented pledge spray, and another scented variation of Mr. Clean. I specifically use the Mr. Clean on floors and only let my dogs walk on them once it's dry.

It might seem dumb to include pet products, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Has anyone had any experiences with these products?

I don't know what to do

Hi, all. This may be off topic, and I would like to clarify that I'm not venting, I'm just sort of lost and would like the opinion of others. For context, I handled a moldy dish and forgot to wash my hands earlier this week. By now, mold spores are probably everywhere, and I'm very worried about my budgie. Cleaning would be pointless aside for cleaning and disinfecting my budgies cage.

To top it off, I'm pretty sure I have OCD, and it's making things pretty difficult to deal with. I was cleaning my birds dish at 3:30am, just because I don't know if I did it right. I washed my hands before touching the bowl, sprayed dawn dish soap on the outsides, and scrubbed it down with my hands, but I don't think I got it clean enough. No matter what I do with it, it doesn't ever feel clean. I have to clean my budgies cage tomorrow because of the mold spores, and I feel horrible for even placing his bowl on top of his cage because there's nowhere else for me to put it.

If I soak my budgies bowl in boiling water, will it disinfect it and kill any possible mold spores? Will I still need to wash it with soap afterwards? What do I clean his cage with to make sure the mold spores die?

I desperately need to rehome him, especially because of how much worse my mental health is getting because of OCD. I'm worried that the food in my fridge is contaminated and I can't feed him vegetables. I'm extremely worried about him, but I don't know any places in Michigan where I can rehome him quickly and also not drive over 30-40 minutes (my dad won't drive me and I don't have a drivers license).

I'm worried if I give him to a shelter, a breeder will take him in or he'll go to someone who doesn't know what they're doing. The parrot rescues around me are all at full capacity, but I've considered insisting that it's an emergency and offering money for them to take him in sooner.

I'm sorry about horrible wording or me repeating the same thing, it's currently 4:30am for me and I haven't slept.

Dishwasher, mold spores

Hi, all. It’s late at night and I still need to wash my cats' water dish because I didn't do it yesterday or the day before aside for rinsing it with very hot water (I’m aware I should wash it every day, but I was being dumb and put it off). I'm kind of becoming dizzy and it's hard to focus, I'm exhausted — does anyone know if it's safe to put my cats water dish in alongside my dogs and my own?

Another thing is that I was being dumb yesterday, and forgot to wash my hands after handling a moldy dish. I'm extremely worried about mold spores, but by now, I think it's everywhere in my house. I'm worried because my cat is mainly in my room and I'm concerned that my carpet has mold spores — she brushed her mouth against my shoe earlier, for whatever reason. She's rubbing against stuff that I know I've touched and then getting into my bed, which is pretty concerning because she sleeps in my bed as well.

I'm worried about it being on the bottom (not on the inside) of her dishes because her dishes are on the floor, and the bottom of them touch the countertops because I bring several of them down to handwash. Does this have any effect on her?

Mold

I'm double posting this to be sure, and maybe this is me overreacting, but I thought I'd ask for advice anyway. Before people get on me for being sensitive, I thought I'd say that I'm like 90% sure that I have OCD, so don't assume that I'm oblivious for asking really odd and specific questions.

I touched black mold that was forming in my blender earlier whilst I was putting it in the dishwasher, and forgot to wash my hands afterwards. I touched the sides of my dogs bowl, the couch that my dog frequently sleeps on, the sides of a bag of cat food, dish soap, several door knobs, and I'm worried that I'll end up tracking it into my bed somehow (my dog sleeps in my bed). I'm also worried that if anyone else touches these things and then touches my dogs or their treats, they'll get sick somehow. (or if my pets touch the things I may have contaminated). I also ended up touching the side of my birds cage.
Should I clean any of these things? I put the dog bowl in the dishwasher, but I'm worried that after putting something moldy in there previously, it’ll contaminate the bowl somehow. I don't even know if this is relevant, but the mold didn't even get cleaned off 😭???

Also, VERY dumb question, but another concern I had was touching the dish soap. I'm worried that my dog bowl won’t come out free of bacteria or something because I touched it. I just don't want to end up worrying about this later tonight because I didn't have my questions answered.

I've touched pretty much everything in the house now, my dog was lying where I sat at one point, and my cat decided to rub against something I touched and then get in my bed. I really have NO idea what to do, because my pets have already touched things that I've touched. My dog was sniffing my hands earlier, and I think his nose might've touched it. I've touched way more things than I realized, so this would take me hours to clean and be careful not to touch anything again. I'd also have to bathe all of my dogs and ensure that they don't touch anything again, which is kind of difficult to do.

I also have no idea if I should clean the floors or not. Does anyone have any advice? This is a huge mess if I did end up contaminating these things. I'm pretty sure someone ended up touching my dogs food bowls and food as well.

Thoughts on Play On ?

Hi, all. I have 3 dogs and 1 cat, and they're gonna need more bowls and toys soon. Does anyone have any brand recommendations? I was looking at one called Play On, and it seems to have pretty good reviews.
