How to be alone, not lonely? (an introvert's struggle)

I'm an introvert who has to often "turn it on" and be extroverted. I socialize but prefer to keep it to the same 5 people.

I'm not looking for a relationship. I'm very much ok with being alone and have zero desire for a relationship (haven't been in one for a decade).

I WFH, sometimes from coffee shops, usually not.

I'm ok with being alone. Finally. I'm getting better at it. But being lonely is what I'm struggling with.

There are days like today that I'm doom scrolling, haven't done anything productive, not even interested in reading a book, and those 5 friends are busy.

Is there a place I can go to not feel lonely and interact with people without feeling obligated to be super sociable?

I have nothing against a good conversation with a couple of people, but large gatherings are starting to give me more and more anxiety and nervousness. (I'm 39F woman and such a cliche ha)

I can often be a night owl so a place where people are out late is also helpful.

P.s. I can explain more about myself and what brings me here but I'm getting flack on another reddit post about the length of my story about a family trip ha. Trying to keep it brief...

Need help: Texas Comptroller Notice of Intent to Forfeit Right to Transact Business

I set up an LLC last year 2026 but never took money from clients through it (I know, stupid) because I never set up a bank account specially for it. I just reported my income as an individual at tax time.

I just got this notice in the mail and am confused because I never took payments through the account?

I googled and see that I need to file something, but it's not clear in the web file online system what I'm supposed to be filing.

The notice is a 05-211 and file number at top says XT171940.

The notice I got says the problem is: "long form (05-158) or EZ (05-169), and/or complete, signed public information report (form 05-102), not filed"

Online the solutions for this are:

"Issue:

No original franchise tax report and/or Public Information Report filed; or

Franchise tax report was not accepted. (You will be notified by letter regarding the reason for non-acceptance of your report.)

To resolve:

File the franchise tax report and/or the Public Information Report - see Filing Methods; or

If your entity is a member of a combined group, see Combined Reporting Information."

But when I log into the web file system, it doesn't give me options to file the franchis tax report or the Public Information Report. It only gives me these options:

"File an EZ Computation Report

File a Long Form Report

File a Public/Ownership Information Report

File a No Tax Due Information Report

(Only applicable for reports originally due prior to 1/1/2024)

Request a First or Second Extension

(Include Payment if Required)

Make a Payment Only

(Choose Request an Extension for Extension Payments)

File a Common Owner Information Report

(Required for Combined Groups Only with a Preserved BLC credit)"

Which do I file?

It's past business hours so I can't call the Comptroller office right now :(

Family of 7's trip to Yellowstone: lessons learned and tips

I learned so much from this sub (and lots and lots of Googling and talking to others) so I wanted to make sure to give back.

My family of 3 adults, 1 teen, 2 kids, and 1 toddler went to Yellowstone the first week of August. It's the first time we did a rugged trip like this specific group.

Flew Southwest, which was terrible with kids (everyone on the plane was aggravated being split up from their families). Flew into BZN in the evening. We drove out in daylight, but the sun fell fast and we were driving on single lane two-way roads for a solid 1.5 hours to get to our VRBO in Island Park, ID

Tip: try not to fly into an airport that's freaking two hours away :)

Note: we did VRBO because all the in-park cabin/hotels were booked (need to book things way in advance y'all!) and we aren't the camping or RV type. (Booking 2 rooms vs. The two story VRBO = basically same price)

We made sure to buy food to cook breakfast, sandwiches, and some snacks from the VRBO rather than straight up buying meals out and about. Ice cooler is important to keep in the back of your car along with a case of water bottles. U don't want to get stuck looking for water refill stations... I mean toilets barely exist out there.

Trying to eat food within the park is just a bad idea. You're going to feel like crap for eating crap.

We ate out twice in West Yellowstone and had trout in both places - freaking DELICIOUS

The drive from VRBO to West entrance was about 30-40 mins. People here said to get there early or else you sit in line forever. We got there at 10am the first day, line was maybe like 20 mins long. The other days we rolled in around 12 and there was barely a line, if at all. Idk if this is because they're weekdays or if it's actually earlier in the day that there are so many cars?

Regarding the times....

First regret is that we got in to our VRBO so late, that we weren't rested well and it was hard to get out the next morning. After that, it was hard to get out early every morning. We were glad that he line situation didn't hit us in the face tho....

Second thing is to make sure you get out of Yellowstone before sunset. Them roads are not meant to be driven in darkness - not good for you or the wildlife. Also we lived out west so if the sun is coming down, it's in your face. Watch out

Regarding the itinerary....

Above I've attached screenshots of the itinerary I had created after tons of research. If I had gone by myself, that itinerary could've totally happened. But in dealing with the issues of 6 other beings (who I love dearly ha) this itinerary was a dream.

Two of the things I REALLY wanted to do was Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic. The latter was great along with its surrounding stuff. We parked and had to walk a while but it's worth it.

But Old Faithful? After all the anticipation it was like "oh that's it?" Wasn't worth the hot and sticky crowd we were stuck in. (Parking was right in front, not much of a walk!)

Regarding the heat btw...

The temps were highs of 75 and lows of 45 every time we checked before leaving. While we were there? Easily 85, we were lucky when it would get to 70-75. (I'm sure at night it was super cold, we'd be back home by then)...... (And I don't mean 85 at 12pm, I mean it like even as the sun is starting to go down) But yeah we were unprepared for just how hot it was gonna get. Thank God for washing machine in VRBO we just kept washing and re-wearing our thinnest things.

Oh and altitude sickness is real. One family member had it so they used kind of like those portable oxygen things (but it wasn't O2) and would sit for a while and get better. They don't have a history of other breathing issues.

So on Day 1, all we did was Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic and we were pooped (didn't do anything else in my itinerary). There were a lot of road closure things on that path so the drive took longer than it looks.

Day 2 - we went to the Grizzly/Wolf Discovery Center and it was nice to learn about them and see them but it was hot out and wasn't intriguing enough to keep the kids entertained too long (I mean we're not taking them to Disney so they're fine ha) then we went to **Hayden Valley and the Brinks of Falls and Artist Point (**breathtaking) etc. Didn't see much in terms of animals. Never ended up doing the southeast area of the park. It's the area people say if you miss it it isn't a big deal.

Day 3 - we made the long trek out to Lamar Valley cuz someone in our group was desperate for animals ha and you really want to see them after the Discovery Center. Another thing about timing: the best time to see wildlife is between 6-9am and 6-9pm (per awesome ranger we spoke to). Well we barely got in the valley and were greeted with a WHOLE BUNCH of bison grazing not far from the road... Literally like 200 (one of us counted ha). Then we got in the car and drove more and again there were a bunch of bison grazing very close to the edge of the road so a whole bunch of cars had pulled up and were safely away standing behind cars or staying seated inside.

These animals are so beautiful. Everyone was like pindrop silent. I took a look around at how diverse everyone looked from each other and here we all are, completely in awe of something so powerful, in this phenomenal national park - more like national treasure.

On our way back from Lamar, a bunch of cars were pulled up again and we saw a Grizzly cub in the distance and that WAS AMAZING.

Regrets: should've invested in binoculars and bought the teenager a DLSR because it turns out she's wicked good when not sending us weird selfies.... Really missed out on some memories there

We got a close-up to a male elk right by our car at one point (pic above). And usually when we'd be driving in/out of West entrance, there would be a field of female elk just chilling. Some humans are super weird (or dumb) and try to get up all close to take pics.

Day 4 - turns out one of the adults really wanted to do hikes so we went to different scenic spots around Hayden and the Canyon Village area. It was all random stuff but very nice.

Why didn't we see more Geysers?

After Old Faithful my family wasn't keen on it but I know there are so many beautiful ones around

Why didn't you do any of the activities you'd listed in the itinerary?

My family didn't want to be held down by time commitments if we booked stuff so instead we tried to let the activities happen where they may. I personally wish we had made it a point to do the scenic float down the river (the whole thing is 2 hours, not including the drive there and back - so the toddler wasn't going to hang on that long)

Sure my family held me back a lot in terms of what I wanted to do but one of my priorities was to build some memories with these kids who are growing up way too fast. I wanted them to remember seeing beautiful things and that we did it together. We took so many fun pics.

And the thing about nature is that you're never just done seeing it - every time you go you'll see more. I look forward to going to Yellowstone again in the future but if I never get to go, I feel happy that I saw what I saw and was properly in awe of it. I recommend everyone to go. I would put it over the Grand Canyon even.

Happy travels to everyone!

Getting PMP "for the hell of it"....?

Hey y'all,

1 year ago I had started studying for my PMP, stopped in a couple months.

I had purchased the Udemy course with Andrew and got PMP prep books. All of that is just sitting there now.

After I got caught up in some client projects, and after I read on Reddit how no one is getting PMP jobs, even after getting PMP and being a PM for years, I was like "why try what others more ahead of me can't get"

I've been thinking of pursuing my PhD but I'm stuck on which direction I want to go with it (nonprofit operations? development and fundraising? school leadership? Etc). I miss structured learning where you're building up to something.

I'm a nonprofit consultant who struck out on her own because of sinking ship where I wasn't treated well but I don't want to be self-employed and want to be a part of a team again.

I love project management, processes, resource allocations, being handed a bag of tools that's lacking everything you need but being told that's all I can work with. Challenge accepted.

I miss learning and I enjoyed the PMP material so now it's like.... Do I just do this and try to get my PMP and not hold out too much hope for my future job stuff? Or should I go do something else if I'm just getting it "for the hell of it" essentially.

(I have a feeling I'm about to get some sarcastic responses about how dumb this post is, posting anyway for those who might give me some thoughtful advice, ha)

Adult women's swim classes?

Hi,

I want to learn to swim for the first time for my safety and the safety of others.

I'm googling adult swim options and see some things like British Swim School/(24 Hour Fitness), Houston Swim Clubs, the Houstonian, Texas Swim Academy, Swim Jim, YMCA, Lifetime, Lifetime.life...

Most of these places don't have classes in Westchase or adjacent, and are beyond my budget of $50/mo (completely unreasonable?), and/or they don't have anything on their websites about women only classes (I'll have to call to find out).

I can work on the budget issue and run more numbers to reduce other life costs but a non-negotiable is that it must be a women's only environment.

Any recommendations?

How are wildlife sightings for people right now?

My family is really hoping to see some bison and other wildlife but based on how today went with us getting out of the house and to Old Faithful, etc, I don't think there's a way to get us there by dawn during this trip. :/

I was reading online that sometimes dusk is another good time to sight wildlife in Lamar/Hayden. Has anyone experienced this lately?

Also, are there any particular parts of Lamar or Hayden Valley with the best likelihood to see them?

1st day at Yellowstone! Road closure question

So excited to be here!!!

I see in the NPS app that there is a road closure going down the way to Old Faithful and the road is all colored red. Does that mean we can't make it there?

(If there is a better place for these questions please let me know!)

Feedback on my family's vacation itinerary?

[EDITING TO ADD NOTES BELOW BASED ON WHAT PEOPLE ARE ADVISING BELOW! THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE!]

Hi!

I've been wanting to go to Yellowstone for a few years now and super excited it's finally happening. I've built out the below itinerary based on lots of Googling, AI, and posts on Reddit (that had amazing maps!).

My family is 3 adults and 4 children (1 teen, 2 kids, 1 toddler) so it's going to be a little slow moving and we are NOT going to be able to do hikes, just walks. (:

We're staying in a VRBO near the West entrance.

DAY 1: SOUTHWEST

- Firehole Falls

- Old Faithful Geyser

- Grand Prismatic Spring

  • (Note: go when it's not all super steamy)
  • (note: beware of packed lot that people may not be in and out of quickly. Get here early! People going on trails park here too and so they won't be leaving the lot anytime soon.)

- Great Fountain Geyser

- Fountain Paint Pot Trail

- Activity: Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center

  • Restaurant Recs: Firehole BBQ

DAY 2: SOUTHEAST

- Hayden Valley

- Mud Volcano

- Activity: Yellowstone Lake scenic boat tour

- Dragon's Mouth Spring

- West Thumb Geyser Basin

  • Restaurant rec: Lake Yellowstone Hotel

DAY 3: NORTHEAST/EAST

- Activity: Roosevelt Corrals 2-hour history wagon ride (Note: consider pulling this out and bank more on Lamar Valley and Canyon Village)

  • (new add) Lamar Valley

- Canyon Village (cool place to learn about geothermal, Mammoth, and animal stuff)

  • Restaurant rec: the Eatery

- Brink of Upper/Lower Falls (Note: be ready to carry toddler because there are steep things and stairs that don't support a stroller)

- Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

- Artist Point/Grand View (Note: someone said Artist is a MUST)

  • Restaurant Rec: Roosevelt Hotel

DAY 4: NORTH/NORTHWEST

- Activity: boat float from Gardiner

  • Restaurant rec: Wonderland in Gardiner

- Mammoth Hot Springs

- Porcelain Basins

- Norris Geyser Basin

  • (note: beware of packed lot that people may not be in and out of quickly. Get here early!)

- Gibbon Falls

CONCERNS I HAVE:

  1. The lists are short but as you know, it's a lot of driving. Is there stuff I'm being unrealistic about?

  2. Anyone done a river float with a toddler before? I need to assuage the toddler's mom's fears ha.

  3. Have I missed a "MUST see/do"?

  4. Have I included anything that's like "meh"?

  5. Online I see that we need to be out the door by 8am daily if we're going to beat the park entrance traffic. With our family, I'm afraid that'll happen exactly...... never (kids....).... Do I need to tell my family "hey we need to get out or we can kiss this vacation goodbye" or just that "hey if you want to waste less time in the car, let's get out the door sooner"?

  6. I need to still go through the restaurant options for each area in case we want to eat something beyond what we're going to pack. If you have any specific recommendations like "you've got to try this at this place!" Let me know. We are big foodies. :) Only dietary limit is no pork/alcohol, all else is fair game!

What career should I try to switch to?

Been applying to nonprofit jobs (including foundation positions in hospitals, universities, etc). Got 2 interviews and no call backs.

I'm realizing with the only fields really hiring being healthcare, construction, maybe retail, I need to pivot.

I was studying for my PMP but quickly learned that seasoned PMs aren't finding jobs so what chance would I have?

I have a BS in a healthcare field but I hated it. So much. Felt dumb every day. Depression was deep. I'm right brained, not left brained.

I have two grad degrees in social science fields, one is helpful.

What should I pivot to? Can I get into healthcare at this point? I remember very little from my BS.

For those who have flown other flights, are seating issues as bad as SW?

A lot of people are saying that they're selecting seats due to Choice or some upgrade by using a Southwest credit card, but then their seats get randomly reassigned. I'm seeing a lot of this.

I've flown all airlines domestically and have never bothered to upgrade to seat selections, just to save a buck. But this gets way more complicated when you're flying with kids and need to stick together with your family and not get split up throughout the plane.

Does this happen when y'all get tickets with United/others? Are you able to keep your family together, no surprises? Or is this experience with SWA consistent with other airlines?

My nonprofit client is a school that uses Populi as their LMS but uses Donor Perfect for their donor CRM, which is a clunky ball of mess. Their constituent data is spread out over these multiple places.

They're asking me about options to centralize their data so I was looking for donation management CRMs that integrate with Populi.

Btw while googling this I learned Populi also has a donor CRM functionality? I've filled out their form for a demo.

I saw that Salesforce and something called Element451 have Populi integrations. Any others?

Has anyone used Populi as a CRM or integrated it with a CRM?
