Despite lots of Semi Finals and Finals in recent tournaments, England flatter to deceive.

So my thinking is that England, repeatedly, have easy runs to the latter stages and then fall when they meet quality opposition as they just don't play many truly competitive matches anymore as the World Cup and Euro qualifiers are almost a walk over.

In the past 6 Tournaments England's knockout rounds opposition has been

Doctor Congo

Mexico

Norway

Argentina (lost)

Slovakia

Switzerland

Netherlands (I will give them that one)

Spain (lost)

Senegal

France (lost)

Germany (will give them that one too)

Ukraine

Denmark

Italy (lost)

Colombia

Sweden

Croatia(lost)

Iceland (lost)

No disrespect to the Switzerland, Denmark's and Senegal's of the world but over 6 Tournaments most of their opposition has been teams that should have been easily beat.

Come up against a quality team like a Spain, France, Italy or Argentina and it's add on 2 more years of hurt.

Do train announcements lie?

Just at Manchester Piccadilly (Platform 14 for extra sympathy) and there are, as always, a few trains delayed in both directions including obviously my own. In that time we have been told various reasons:

  1. A fault on an earlier train

  2. An issue that is under investigation

  3. Shortages of train crew

  4. Speed restrictions

Specifically my train is delayed over the tannoy due to a fault on the earlier train and on the passenger information display as due to the speed restrictions.

So a question to people who work in the rail Industry - why are lies pumped out as to why a train is delayed?

No10 North

If they are going to create No10 in the North then it probably needs to be located somewhere in the centre and it needs to have gravitas about it. There aren't that many buildings that would meet the requirements, so what does everyone think. My vote would go to the Refuge Assurance Building in Oxford Rd AKA The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel.

What do you prefer - hand driers or paper towels?

Every time I go to a toilet out of my home I will always go for the paper towels if they and a hand drier is available after washing my hands.

They dry in about 1/10 of the time of a hand drier and they are undoubtedly recycled and recyclable.

Am I the minority or majority?

Can Carling Black Label ever be described as either "new" or "premium"?
