'Stop Hyperscale Data Centers' protest on Devonport Road today.

Walked past these guys on my lunch break. Photo taken with permission.

I know street protest can be a little dinky and feel silly but good on these folks for getting out there and doing something instead of nothing. It was a good atmosphere. I took a pamphlet they were handing out and it was a clear, well-written, reasonable explanation of concerns and demands around justification for building data centers here in Aotearoa.

No cookery or other conspiracy crap hiding behind the main message, at least as far as I could see.

As someone who shares these concerns and didn't know about the protest beforehand, I feel well-represented.

A fun cosmographical fact as we approach the NMS anniversary and the Te Ao Māori New Year

The constellation known globally as the Pleiades cluster is soon to rise in Aotearoa New Zealand, where it is called Matariki and in local Māori culture also names the celebration of the new year, timed to when it rises. The name is also shared with other polynesian cultures throughout the Pacific, where as in many other cultures the constellation is traditionally revered as a fundamental navigational aid.

In Greek myth the Pleiades are Seven Sisters, and are also grouped with two other stars which represent their parents; their mother has the retronym of Pleione and their father is Atlas.

Which is all to say that every year down the bottom of the world, as NMS's birthday approaches, Atlas is Rising.

If there's one videogame community that regularly embodies the spirit of the Matariki festival (Come together, reflect on and farewell the past, and embrace the future... with a side of celestial navigation 🌌) it's this one. Mānawatia a Matariki to everyone in this great community.

Some unanswered plot questions.

  1. What was in the second syringe in Iceland? THEIA didn't want Bond using it, yet it was seemingly harmless.

* Is it the drug Damien uses at the end? This would be a subtle acknowlegement of the level of cartoon resilience that Bond has to damage for the sake of gameplay, without putting too much of a point on it.

  1. What was the inciting incident that prompted 009 to make contact with MI6 regarding what he knows about THEIA?

* Was it a simply the fact they'd restarted the 00 program?

* Maybe even more simply the fact that in turn, Greenway was back and 009 knew he could be trusted?

  1. Who was 009 playing chess with?

* Is this one of those things they'll show us the set-up to in the DLC (Downloadable Lenny-Kravitz Content)?

I'm intentionally leaving out stuff that can just be answered by "this is James Bond, there's some silliness"
