Recently dug up my dad's old Minolta that has a 50mm f1.4 Rokkor-X lens. Since it's such a fast lens, I decided to try a macro teleconverter and use it with my Canon Rebel.

I also have a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro EF lens to compare. Although I can get sharper images with the Canon (it's brighter, with autofocus and stabilization), the Minolta has its own character, especially with flares and ghosting. But for plain shots without obvious bokeh and ghosting, I think it would be hard for most people to tell the difference.

My only frustration is the Photodiox Pro MD-EOS adapter. I read the corrective lens was removable, but there no spanner grooves. I tried friction with a rubber band, but it's in there too tight and smuded the lens. Anyone have experience removing the lens on this adapter?

Shots from a Coolpix S3100 that I fixed up recently.

Cleaned up the heavily corroded battery compartment of a DiMAGE Z3. After shooting around, I found this to be a very underrated camera. Takes SD cards, AA batteries, 35-420mm zoom, super macro (1 cm), manual controls, good autofocus, snappy performance, and solid image quality.

On top of all that, the image stabilization is pretty amazing for such an old camera. I was able to shoot 1/2 second, hand held & zoomed in. Although it maxes out at 400 ISO, the ability to shoot slow shutter speeds makes up for it. Looking on eBay, fully functioning units go for under $20!

I've never owned a bridge camera, was always turned off by the looks. I always assumed they were the size of DSLRs, but I realized they can actually be very compact and comfortable to hold.

Got this camera as part of a lot. Thought it was a goner, but decided to clean the battery compartment and see what happens. I used cotton swaps with vinegar & alcohol, then scraped at the remaining residue the best I could with a small screwdriver.

It was glitchy at first, I think a combination of the cleaning residue and whatever gremlins were living inside this thing was causing very weird behavior.

Eventually, after a random series of events and a few whacks, it started working!

It's actually a pretty good camera; good zoom, good image quality, super macro, and great image stabilization (1/2" hand held). I'll post some shots after I take it for a spin.

I recently got a lot of cameras off eBay, one of which was a Coolpix S3100 with a busted screen. I was able to test that it still took good photos and purchased another unit with a busted lens and replaced the screen.

Just wanted to throw it out there that replacing parts is still doable with a lot of consumer cameras.
