Has anyone had to miss Bid Day because of another commitment?

I’m a first-year student going through sorority recruitment, and I’m trying to figure out what to do about a scheduling conflict.

I’m on my university’s cheer team, and we have a game on the exact same day as Bid Day. The game is supposedly mandatory, and I really, really love cheer and don’t want to miss one of the few games we have.

At the same time, I know Bid Day is a huge deal and there’s only one. It seems like such an important opportunity to meet everyone in my new chapter.

I’m wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation where they had to miss Bid Day because of another commitment. How did it affect your experience with your chapter? Did you feel like you missed out on an important bonding moment, or were you able to catch up with everyone afterward?

I’m also planning to talk to both my cheer team and my RC to see if there’s a way to work it out, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has actually experienced something similar!

Moving into Lister Residence alone

Hi everyone!

I'm moving into Lister Residence this fall, and I'll be flying to Edmonton by myself. My assigned move-in time is based on my last name (1–2 p.m.), but my flight doesn't land until 2:00 p.m., so I emailed Residence Services to ask if it would be okay if I arrived around 3:00 p.m. instead.

They replied saying that if I miss my assigned time slot, I have to wait until the designated late arrival check-in from around 7.

I'm currently emailing them again to see if there's any flexibility because I'll only be about an hour late due to a flight time I can't control. It just seems strange that I'd have to wait over three extra hours with all of my luggage in a city I've never been to before, especially since I'll be arriving alone.

Has anyone else dealt with something similar at U of A or Lister? Were they able to make an exception, or is the late arrival policy always strictly enforced?

Also, if I do have to wait until 6:30, is there anywhere on campus to store luggage or somewhere people usually go while they wait?

I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks!

Edit; they made an exception for me and let me grab my keys an hour later 🥳
