Almond vs Oat
Hi everyone so, it's been almost half a year since I began my matcha journey.
One thing I keep noticing is that how people have such strong opinions when it comes to milk for matcha lattes.
I have tried both oat and almond milk.
And I personally would always pick almond.
But it has such a negative rep in the community, I've seen people saying oat is better, it brings out the matcha whereas almond competes with it and kills it.
And if you prefer the "inferior" choice then all of a sudden you don't actually like matcha and you're just here for the trend. I think we all agree there is some form of elitism associated with matcha where people tend to look down on others.
And I already know and understand that it doesn't really matter and you are allowed to like what you like.
But as still relatively new, I'm still trying to understand why that is, hoping to know more about why do such a vast majority prefer oat, and if there's something inadequate in my assessment and I'm missing out on a key aspect, I'm totally up for suggestions and opinions. (I've ordered it again to test it one more time)
I have found the opposite to be true for me.
I've given both oat and almond a good amount of time and really hoped that oat would grow on me.
But in my experience I found oat milk to have a much stronger cereal, leaning taste and has seemed to always overpower the vegetal and earthy taste of matcha that I prefer.
Almond milk on the other hand appears lighter and more neutral to me and it allows the stronger matcha flavour to stand out.
But ofc pallette and preferences could vary.
For reference I prefer stronger matcha flavour so I use 4g ceremonial grade matcha (using kamaash no.5 atm)with 30-40ml water , 60ml milk and some monkfruit sweetner for sweetness and lots of ice.
