Rochester is an amazing place to be vegan :o) 🌱

[i wanted to use the meme format so i replaced the image of the original asshole with a photo of my rabbit, Finnegan]

for a city of its size Rochester is absolutely flush with a wealth of both dedicated veg food spots and veg options all over town. i just feel so lucky!!!

some of my old and new favorites off the top of my head:

- vegan Cashew Later pizza at Cross Country Crumb
- literally anything on the menu + a Sweet Plvnts pastry at Grass Fed Vegan Butcher (but especially just a plain old bacon grilled cheese 😋)
- caesar salad at Red Fern
- vegan house made veg burger + a chocolate pb shake from Swillburger
- Madonn + loaded fries from Squatchos
- vegan BLT from Dogtown (and that quinoa burger special when they have it…. omfg. i dream about this regularly)
- vegan bacon/sausage egg and cheese on a Fox’s bagel from Montgomery Court
- literally anything drink + a black cat pastry from Clownboy
- the entire vegan menu of sushi at Keep it Rollin’

plus we have Veg Fest! i’ve actually never gone because i work food service myself so i’m always on the clock stuck behind the counter lol

plus x2 i feel very accommodated almost anywhere I go and i’ve made so many new friends and connections by just connecting over food and veganism <3

lmk if i’ve missed your personal fav OR just drop a comment saying something you love about being vegan in Flower City 🌸

how to help local rabbits…?

(relevant photo included for both pet tax and exposure purposes lol)

sorry if this is kind of a bizarre question. i have two amazing lovely rabbits at home and am experienced in rabbit care. rabbits are a huge love of mine and i would do anything to help more of them.

i have a lot of time on my hands and want to help local rabbits. i’ve applied to become a foster with lollypop but haven’t gotten a response yet. i’d still love to do this if and when they get back to me, but i’m wondering if there’s more i can be doing that i’m not aware of!

are there local rescues who need help? are there any rabbit owners in need of boarding care while traveling out of town this summer? any fostering or volunteering opportunities involving rabbits outside of lollypop? something else i’m not thinking of?

thanks in advance for any help :o) and hello to all the other rabbit owners and lovers out there

PWHL draft watch party?

is there anywhere in town hosting an event for the draft? and if not, where might someone potentially enjoy a small impromptu and unofficial gathering in order to watch the draft?

i think cymbalta made me… worse? (personal case, ymmv)

my doctor and i are working on managing my pain and fatigue. i see a hypermobility specialist PT, drink lots of electrolytes (ily coconut water), sleep with a u-shaped maternity pillow (j’adore), etc.

i’ve never taken meds for pain management outside of short term stuff like post op meds. advil and tylenol and such don’t do diddly squat for me.

we tried cymbalta and the nausea and fatigue and brain fog that i already experience got exponentially worse. i started having dramatic orthotic intolerance. i started having textbook POTS symptoms. my subluxations increased in frequency and severity. it did barely anything to touch my pain or bring down my baseline. i missed about a month of college & work.

i stopped cymbalta and started LDN (low dose naloxone) about a week or so ago and i already feel like a different person. my pain is unchanged but my fatigue is exponentially better. my joints are as bad as ever but not to the intense degree they were on cymbalta. i’m back in class today. i worked a shift yesterday and didn’t vomit or crash on the floor and pass out when i got home. i’m not sure that the naloxone is working yet because that can take some time to get into my system and do its thing. i think it’s that cymbalta is out of my system. i can’t believe i went weeks feeling like that. i was practically bedbound many of those days.

not posting this to scare anyone. we tried cymbalta because it has worked for other chronic pain and fatigue patients of hers and it was worth a try and i’ll never wonder if it works now, but i am definitely grieving the time i lost to being really sick on it, brief as it was. has this happened to anyone else? has LDN worked for you?

dedicated bike lanes on culver

the new dedicated bike lanes and painted lanes on culver near cobbs hill are such a lovely step in the right direction for making our city more accessible and pleasant to get around in :o)

now give us a light rail back and make it and our busses so good that they disincentivize car ownership and turn monroe and park into car-free pedestrian and bike and public transit only corridors!!!!!!! >:o) mwahahaha

but seriously i love to see it and i want to see more!

i was disappointed so i replied. i was also pretty disappointed in their response to me.

i would much rather give my money to a place like binkybunny than amazon or another chain. i also think it’s unfair to hold small businesses to a higher standard than others.

on the other hand, i cannot see myself giving money to businesses that do not have a staunch anti AI stance if there is an alternative. i don’t think “we’re a small business and it’s hard and everyone else is doing it anyway” is an excuse.

i’m torn. i think it’s complicated. what are your thoughts?
