Hey everyone! The 5K is this Saturday! 😱 🚀

Reminder that are raising money for Child's Play, which is a fantastic organization founded by the creators of PAX, that sends toys and games to hospitals for sick kids. They also provide funds for hospitals to hire gaming technology specialists to help both patients and staff navigate gaming technology like consoles, VR, and more.

IMPORTANT!

No one should feel obligated to donate anything unless they want to. The 5K is free, and if all you want to do is show up and run with us, that's still incredible, and we'd love to have you.

Details

• Date/Time: Saturday, September 5th, 7:30a PDT
• Location: Seattle Waterfront, Pier 58, next to the Aquarium. Near the large metal fountain. This is right on Alaskan Way, between the stairs from Union St and University St.
• We will run or jog or walk or otherwise transport ourselves from the waterfront, down the sidewalk toward the Olympic Sculpture Park. The halfway/turnaround point will be a ways into the newly renovated/refurbished Myrtle Edwards park.

My wife and I will be there at ~7:15. If we're not yet there when we arrive, just wait by the fountain. It's probably a good idea to stretch for a few minutes before we leave anyway.

We will probably start running/walking at about 7:40, just to make sure we give people some leeway on arrival time.

FAQ

Do I have to run?

Not at all! However you want to do this is up to you. Keep in mind that it's a little over 3 miles, so just be prepared for what that means in terms of your time.

What if it rains?

We're still running! We ran the route this past Saturday, in the rain, and it's not bad at all. The good news is, recent weather forecasts have reduced the chances of rain on Saturday significantly, so we may not have to worry about it at all.

What about traffic?

The route we are running is fully along the waterfront. There is exactly one crosswalk at the entrance to the Edgewater Hotel parking lot. Please follow the crosswalk signal. Otherwise, we are not crossing any streets.

Parking?

If you happen to be driving, I recommend figuring out your parking situation for the whole day of PAX, and walking to the waterfront from there if you can. Parking is at a premium in downtown Seattle, and there's no guarantee of availability.

Route Info

See the attached photos for reference.

1. Meet at the fountain by the aquarium.

2. When you reach the Olympic Sculpture park, stay on the pedestrian path except for the brief period where the paths merge.

3. Stay on the main path throughout. There are a lot of shortcuts in Myrtle Edwards Park, but the route is along the main path.

4. The most noticeable landmark right before the turnaround point is a 10-foot tall lighthouse on the right side. When you pass that you're only about 50 yards from the turnaround point.

5. If you pass workout equipment or the rose garden, you have gone too far! Turn back!

6. There is a little loop to the left with a sign saying Sunset Stroll. That's the turn around. Go through the loop to turn around and head back to the aquarium!

Request

I'm looking for a couple of volunteers, if anyone is willing. This is not 100% necessary, but it could improve the experience overall.

• It would be helpful to have a non-runner to stay by the fountain during the run, in case anyone shows up late, and so the first finishers have someone to cheer their return.
• It would also be helpful (but less critical) to have someone wait at the turnaround point to help make sure people turn around at the right time.

What a way to end the format! This might be one of the most fun decks I've played in MSH. And it's the closest to a "normal" Golgari deck I've played in a while. Put things in the graveyard and generate value.

Highlights:
- [[Earth's Mightiest Heroes]] hitting 4 creatures, including 2 [[Hydra Troopers]]

- Cracking [[Robot Domination]] T5 with 2 [[Rapid Rescue]] and a [[Red Room Recruit]]

- Peak [[Decoy Ploy]]. I would probably have played a second one if I could. I was never lacking for targets for both modes.

Spent a lot of time with this format, since I missed it the first time around, and I was getting bored with MSH. I really enjoyed every archetype, but this deck was a lot of fun to play (for me, at least!)

No rares, either. Feels like a novelty in recent years.

The fact that this setup makes attacking with the outlaws bad makes this even funnier to me. I also somehow failed to notice that Akul has flample, so I missed lethal here, but it didn't really matter.

All I want is for WOTC to give me drafts with normal rarity distributions.

"But people don't get to play with rares" is such a lame excuse. All this does is leads to more games with lopsided outcomes. Someone feels great, and the person on the other side of the table feels like they didn't get to play a game of magic.

I hate being on both sides of the table for this.

Is the deck good? I have no idea. But this sure was fun.

Loved this deck. Value around every corner. I noticed that a lot of people don't realize that power-up is instant speed. That will self-correct, I'm sure.

I don't have any excuses. This was certainly a bad idea. But it worked.

It's not pretty. But into my late 20s my handwriting was completely and totally illegible, even to myself most of the time.

Witherbloom is my favorite color combination in this set, so it's been disappointing that it's been a bit underpowered. I'd already trophied with the other 4 color pairs (+ a couple of soup decks), but this is the first time I've been able to get the 7th win with GB.

I would have preferred a second [[Masterful Flourish]] over the [[Comforting Counsel]], but one usually managed to do the trick anyway. Having backup mascots and lumarets definitely helped, too.

And, did you know Shopkeeper's Bane is also a pest? Bonkers.

I did not play this draft format before. I have no idea if this deck is good or if it's just meme-able hot garbage, but 4x [[Virulent Silencer]] seemed too much fun not to play.
