2017 335d/330d. Diesel worth it?

Looking at getting either 2017 330 or 335d. Would like to know if they’re still worth it, as I get the feeling my lifestyle is sort of on the cusp of diesel/no diesel.

My work means I would be driving 330 miles round trip, at least twice a month to go home. As well as the occasional 400 mile round trip to see my parents (maybe 4-5x per year). That is approx 9k miles per year, without daily driving. No commute but would need the car for drives locally (very much rural, no city stuff). Only time I would ever regularly be in the urban would be those trips home, which would involve around 20-25 mins of London driving.

Does this seem appropriate for diesel and would I actually be saving money, given the better mpg but higher cost per litre? Considering things like 340i or 440i but I just want to be as economical as is reasonably possible on those longer drives, whilst having some good performance.

Advice on next car. S3/440i/530d?

It’s still early doors but looking for some thoughts on what to get a bit later down the line. I like the 2016-2018 S3 but not sure how reliable they are and if it’ll cost me a lot more to maintain that the others.

On the flip side, the bigger BMW’s around 2017-2018 aren’t too much more expensive from what I’ve seen and might offer more reliability?

2017 Jazz 1.3 CVT loss of power at low revs.

My jazz has random losses of power around 1000-1600rpm when gently accelerating. RPM will drop, I’ll get no power, then it’ll all come back again and the car will pull away. I usually need to increase throttle or downshift with the paddles to get out of this sluggish state. It has also completely cut the engine on two occasions, forcing me to stop and turn the car on again.

This only occurs in drive, not reverse, neutral or park, suggesting to me it’s CVT related. Spark plugs are basically brand new. Seems to be worse when the car has been driven and is warmer (doesn’t make sense to me). I’m thinking it’s CVT fluid related but unsure.

Any ideas from anyone? Would be much appreciated.

BMW 435d, 530d advice

Looking at getting a 4 or 5 series used, with an eye on something like these two.

Currently thinking diesel as I’ll be doing weekly long drives of over 100miles, but not against a petrol.

Would appreciate any insight into 2016-2019 ish models of 4/5 series, particularly whether I should be wary of higher mileage units. Just generic advice appreciated. Thanks.

Hey all, I’m not actually with the US military but my country doesn’t have a sub like this.

I’m currently a few months away from confirming what my specialization will be, and my two main options are infantry officer and pilot. I’ve done all the prerequisite testing so now it’s a matter of a final interview and then (hopefully) being offered a spot.

My question is, how employable are military pilots in the private sector (beyond just civilian pilot jobs)? I know a bunch of ex infantry officers whose military experiences were a huge asset. Is it the same for pilots, or is aviation too specialized compared to something like infantry, where an officer might get more leadership experience?

Any input would be appreciated! Thanks
