Dr London.. Aaron?

So I’m a few episodes into season 6 and few questions…

  1. So we know Doc was feeding info about criminals to m Monica because she was blackmailing her. had a choice but really not a great one.. At some point of her giving herself up Blair says she did it to help people and she just wanted to help people? How did she think helping Monica would help people??

  2. Aaron and her have a 3 second interaction post her rescue and capture then poof he’s off to North Hollywood? I feel like they really did his character DIRTY. They glazed over his training, no character development in his professional life or personal life besides the random attack on him. Blew up that storyline so much it really had nothing to do with him anymore. Then spent multiple episodes with his only storyline being in therapy, but the therapist did Mad Dog the dirtiest? Unfortunately it was time to get rid of Aaron I can agree with that but so much potential to give him a real storyline but they invested in Bailey who I can’t stand…

I’m at the part where the two new rookies just became the “hero rookies” and I’m invested! I also recently made comments about The acting portrayal of Lucy and wow since season 6 she really changed my mind 180! Bailey has been shipped off for a few episodes and Celina aces her plain clothes day. They even brought back Rachel for a weird twist, I’m loving where the show is at, hoping it continues to get better.

Lucy’s “Accent”

I’m not sure what it is about the way Melissa O’neil plays Lucy’s character and I have attributed some of this to poor writing on the show, leaving little room for the actors to show a range of emotions. However despite the lack of space for deeper character development I have noticed something that REALLY irritates me. When Lucy is speaking about something serious or is argumentative, even something professional like she’s cracked the case on one of their day long mysteries.. it’s very clear this is her actual

voice. When she’s flirting or doing UC and trying to seem like she has more “street cred” she throws a little new york blaccent in there and it really bothers me. I can understand if Lucy was from new york but there’s no evidence to support that.

When she’s was playing Sava HOLLLYY that was way worse but the character called for it. That’s actually how I pinpointed what it was about how she spoke and changed her accent for different situations. Reminds me of Ariana Grande or ugh Gina Rodriguez/ Awkwafina, Billie Eillish.

Not sure if this is an actors choice or subconscious but blaccent is harmful to black people. Especially when you speak in your regular voice during serious or professional conversations and slip in blaccent when you’re having casual conversations. I really hope I don’t need to explain why.

Caveat: I’m not a black person, so Id love to hear from any black fans of the show.

Qualms

So I watched Rookie Blue, and BIASED, yes, I’m Canadian. The Rookie has some heavy similarities without all the star power and budget. I was recommended by two friends that had both watched Rocky Blue to watch the show. I’m currently on season six.

I did not like to show off the bat everyone told me I had to push through to get to Tim and Lucy. So I did. It has become an almost comfort watch something I watch that’s new but also low anxiety provoking. There are so many things that PMO!

I’m going to make a lot of comparisons to Rookie Blue here but that is one of my favourite shows ever. The acting is great. The chemistry between the characters and the main love interest Andy and Sam is incredible. You really feel like the characters care about their job jobs and the people they take care of. Nobody has frozen face from Botox and fillers *cough cough Bailey*. The soundtrack and the storylines also great and MAKE SENSE! It’s not rushed, the progression as rookies makes sense.

My variety pack of beef with The Rookie

  1. It’s almost like they’re trying to fit every puzzle piece in by the end of the episode. You’re telling me barely cut from Rookie cops get golden tickets and officers just magically get every job or promotion they want in the same station?! Like depending on how they want to shake up the episodes they just do whatever they want. Nyla gets to go back to being a detective and poof a slot at her home station is open. Same with Lopez. Bradford does court officer for 2 days then poof 5 person trade for Metro. Despite this we see the Metro team like once and he’s still working with the same 4 cops every shift and doing T.O duties? Wesley worked for a drug kingpin and now works for the DA? huh?? Then oh randomly Gray’s wife went from college drop out to coordinating things for CPS?! Like girl was trying to get her man to retire like two years ago..

  2. Nolan can’t touch anything without it being a massive case, can’t even go on his honeymoon? Like I get it LA is different than Toronto Police but come on now… flying out to diff countries when 1 team member is in trouble in like 2 hours notice . Like Nyla and Lopez going to that island and 1 second into the action they walk in and John’s already escaped and handcuffed the guy.

  3. The whole Thorson reality TV show arc was insane that could not happen in real life. Also him just magically solving problems like oh yeah take my fams private plane or oh perfect wedding venue with a days notice… what??!!!

  4. Sorry have to say to say it. The acting is STIFF. Obvs Nathan Fillion is great but SORRY Lucy and Bailey are not great. Jenna Dewan is a phenomenal performer but her acting is so bad. I had a friend point out everytime an actors face stopped moving and couldn’t express and now I can’t unsee this…

  5. The couples… Bradchen.. I really don’t see the chemistry like at all. If you saw Andy and Sam from Rookie Blue you would get it. Worse than them is Bailey and Nolan, like it seemed like they needed more star power so no matter what they were going to make Bailey and Nolan happen. They basically built their relationship off nothing. How they tried to fix that? They kept pushing the narrative that Bailey was so interesting and everyone loved her!! Always on and on about how she is good at everything she tries she has 1 million hobbies and gets along with everyone. No flaws … just in general with these , Wesley and Lopez are the only people that are flawed and make mistakes which is why their relationship and their characters are well written well acted and have chemistry. Rest of the characters? No fights just happy endings all the time. Same with Nyla and I can’t even remember her partner’s name?!? Just wrap it up with a bow and marry everyone off.

  6. The most outlandish sht happens and they glaze over it before the end of the episode so it’s wrapped up nicely. No one ever mentions it again lol Nolan’s son almost dies, Jackson dies, Selena gets abducted but held 5 steps away from where they picked her up Lol

  7. Why are the partners who aren’t cops ALWAYS in the storyline? Like Nylas husband was in a slew of episodes when they were courting then poof no more. Bailey? Dude we saw fire dept or ambulance like twice before she started with Nolan and now she’s in EVERY case that john has? Makes noooo sense.

  8. Patrol officers choosing their own assignments.. not sure but is this normal? Like just stopping by John’s house during the shift or choosing to hang back in the station?!

  9. Good storytelling doesn’t need to over explain. If they’ve written the story well, then they trust the audience to figure out from context clues, what is happening without plainly saying it out or spelling it out. I can’t think of a specific example, but there are so many times where I’m watching and I think oh this is gonna happen and that’s exactly what happens. They allude to it in the most obvious way. Oh like Thorson wanting to date his therapist, you see it in the first look between them.

Anyways here’s me complaining but as someone who rewatches shows because it’s less anxiety provoking I’ll say despite all of my complaints, I keep going back because it’s interesting enough to keep my attention and keep going, but not so much that I need to stop cleaning or folding laundry.

Who should pay on a 1st date?

I’m 31 (F) and I don’t date much, mostly because I have a rich full life as a single person, (financial stable, hobbies, good friend group, close with family). I used to prefer coffee or a walk on a first date because I don’t want to commit to a longer period of time, if they suggest something else I’ll steer them this way. I recently did an activity with a guy on a first date and that bonded us quicker so I’d be more inclined to that should I continue trying. I have been on 2 dinner dates. Before I used to arrive early and pay for my coffee because I didn’t like the feeling of owing someone and I used to be of the mindset of 50/50 until I realized there’s a lot of emotional domestic labour women take on and it will never be 50/50. I still don’t mind being somewhere close to that when it comes to paying for things with a partner.

What I’d like is a straight man’s opinion here… The 1st dinner date he asked me to go to that restaurant and then we split the bill (we were not compatible, he was quite cynical and dismissed anything positive I tried to say, spent more time complaining about his life than asking questions) I sorta get that one, neither of us interested in a 2nd date… so split and move on.

However I always try and think of what I would do in the flip situation, if I asked someone on a date I would pay, if I asked a friend to take them out to dinner or coffee or to my house I would pay or cook and I have done these things! So whoever asks is whoever should pay

On 3 of the coffee dates I went on when they asked me out, we got to the counter and we ordered separately. So for me knowing what I would do makes me not want to see them again because I would never ask someone out on a date and then not pay for it. It’s a little cringe, we’re all adults with jobs I think if you ask someone out you should know you’re able to afford the $4 coffee they will order lol

My question is, why do some men do this? I feel like it’s a test/punishment/ego test but if you’re so worried about getting a “gold digger” why aren’t you mentioning that before the date or why are you asking women to date you when you can’t afford a coffee? Even a first date requires some kind of incentive or act of interest towards the other person and if you’re already jacked up and upset about how women expect you to pay on a date then why are you dating women?!

I won’t even get started on the men who

expect sex in return for a dinner…
