Toronto Blue Jays [2] vs. New York Yankees [1] (2026-05-20)

Pitcher's duel between two second-year pitchers, Yesavage and Schlittler, is won decisively by Trey Yesavage, at least in their final lines. Otherwise, it was yet another close game, decided by a run, like every other game in the series so far.

Aaron Judge wears a golden sombrero, striking out thrice to the Blue Jays' starter.

In his 2 career starts against the Yankees, in 11.1 IP, Yesavage now has 2 Hs, 0 ERs, 1 BB, and 19 Ks.

Toronto Blue Jays [6] vs. New York Yankees [7] (2026-05-18)

In a thriller, the Blue Jays blow the lead, while the Yankees come back thanks to home runs from Bellinger and Chisholm. Two E2s on Valenzuela, a spectacular diving catch by Schneider overturned on a challenge, then later Rodriguez giving up the losing runs: 4 ERs, 2 HRs, in 0.1 IP.

Meanwhile, Canadian Adam Macko made his Major League debut. The Blue Jays pitcher becomes the first player born in Slovakia to play in MLB.

Canadian Baseball League: Hamilton Cardinals [9] vs. Toronto Maple Leafs [2] (2026-05-17)

Perfect summer weather on the Victoria Day long weekend. Couldn't have asked for a better day for a ballgame in Toronto. The Blue Jays were playing in Detroit, but Toronto's other professional team was in action at home. It was, however, a one-sided beatdown of the home team, as the line score shows.

With his solo shot, the Leafs' De Baning is on a 3-game HR streak to start the season. Meanwhile, former MLB all-star Yasiel Puig, Meanwhile, former MLB All-Star Yasiel Puig, with his sentencing in California looming on May 26, went 0-4 and GIDP to end the game.

Hamilton vs. Toronto. Was it 8-2 or 9-2?

The announcer at the game said 9-2. My scorebook says 9-2. But the website says 8-2. Anyone know what's going on here?

I have Dominguez hitting a sac fly in the top of the 9th, but the website says he lined out to left, no run scored.

Yasiel Puig hits 2 Homers in the Inaugural Game of the Canadian Baseball League: Kitchener Panthers [6] vs. Toronto Maple Leafs [8] (2026-05-10)

First game of the newly rebranded Canadian Baseball League after the Intercounty Baseball League of southern Ontario fully professionalized. It was also my first time at Christie Pits to see the Toronto (Baseball) Maple Leafs play.

Compared to the Blue Jays, this was baseball on a more human level. You're reminded of why it's called a ballpark, because it's literally in a public park. On a breezy summer day, on a grassy hill, families gather, children play, friends socialize, and a weirdo scribbles in his scorebook trying to keep up without the aid of replays or a jumbotron scoreboard. It gave me a sense of that idealized idyllic vision of baseball as a community pastime. We'll see how that holds up now that the league has gone pro.

And of course, Yasiel Puig was in the lineup, to some fanfare and media attention. Going 2 for 2, with 2 home runs, he didn't seem particularly challenged. Though as a loudmouth in the crowd made sure to remind everyone, Puig faces up to 15 years of prison time in the US after being found guilty on federal charges. Not sure what will happen with him playing in Canada, so it'll be interesting to see what happens after his sentencing on May 26.
