Brewers (9) vs. Cubs (3) - May 18, 2026 @ Wrigley

Scored my first live game in a minute, and from the front row behind the visitors' dugout at Wrigley thanks to one of my baseball teammates that had a hook-up. Unfortunately for him he's a Cubs fan, so I had the much better night at the ballpark.

Toronto Blue Jays [2] vs. New York Yankees [1] (2026-05-20)

Pitcher's duel between two second-year pitchers, Yesavage and Schlittler, is won decisively by Trey Yesavage, at least in their final lines. Otherwise, it was yet another close game, decided by a run, like every other game in the series so far.

Aaron Judge wears a golden sombrero, striking out thrice to the Blue Jays' starter.

In his 2 career starts against the Yankees, in 11.1 IP, Yesavage now has 2 Hs, 0 ERs, 1 BB, and 19 Ks.

Where do you guys find the info for umpires before a game?

I’m trying to prepare my scorecards before a game as opposed to at the games how I’ve been doing and wanted to know what resources people use for pregame info like umps. Thank you

Stats related question on pinch runner

In last night’s Red Sox-Royals match up Mickey Gaspar pinch hit for Caleb Durbin in the 9th, singled and Marcelo Mayer pinch ran for Gaspar. Mayer stole second and eventually scored on Duran’s home run. Is there an argument Gaspar should have been awarded that run? If Gaspar had hit a double and been in scoring position when he was pinch run for, does that change anything, stats-wise?

How do I score the “caught stretching” out?

Obviously id mark the location of the hit + advance to 1st + 1B for single, but how do I score the caught stretching out to second? Is it a CS? And would it be considered separate from the original run to 1st? (I use purple to show initial base advancement, then pink for subsequent base advancements)

I know all about How Retrosheet Saved Baseball History so AMA

I'm Jay Wigley and I'm excited to have a chance to answer your questions about Retrosheet, and about how this 100% fan-created and non-profit organization has enabled deep knowledge of baseball history.

If you don't know Retrosheet, check out www.retrosheet.org and you'll find yourself in data heaven. All your favorite baseball sites like Fangraphs and Baseball Reference get their historical MLB games--all the play-by-play and box scores--from Retrosheet (with very few exceptions). But how Retrosheet gathered and preserved all those games has been unknown until recently.

My book is How Retrosheet Saved Baseball History (www.retrosheet-book.com) and is based on both my own volunteer work for Retrosheet and hundreds of hours of interviews and five years of research into every facet of Retrosheet.

If you're a baseball fan beyond today's game, if you enjoy any aspect of baseball history, Retrosheet is for you. John Thorn (MLB official historian) has called Retrosheet "the greatest human endeavor since someone convinced 40,000 Jews to build a pyramid."

So ask me questions about Retrosheet or the book-writing process, or anything at all. I'm excited to engage with Reddit's best and largest baseball community. . .

White Sox at Mariners, 5/19/26

I tend to have a lot of annotations! This is the scorecard you can buy at the team stores for $1+tax. I'm using the erasable pens from frixion per a suggestion from someone here. Horizontal colored lines at the top of a box are pitcher switches; the legend is on the opposing team's pitcher list with the color above the player's name. Pinch hitters or runners are denoted with a colored vertical line when they came into the game. I did most of the scoring at the stadium except for a few things I needed to look up, and then did the stats from home.

Toronto Blue Jays (4) @ New York Yankees (5) - 19.05.2926

TOR Adam Macko first MLB strikeout.

NYY Aaron Boone ejected in the 7th for arguing an out call (had no manager challenge available).

Otherwise, moral of this game. Walks will hurt you!

Rangers at Rockies, 5/18/2026

Pages got slightly damp with the rain, but no harm done.

Some scoring changes with errors led to some funny business with earned runs, as well as whether Sterlin Thompson got his first career hit.

Still refining my method with this notebook. The biggest issue with my current setup is that I'm screwed if the game goes to extras.

Scoring Emerson’s first hit/Home run!

I knew I needed to score these next few games until Emerson got his first hit. Awesome to see his first hit and home run!

Difference between SH/SF and FC

Why is it that a Sac Fly is considered as such and doesn’t count towards averages but a fielders choice groundout that scores a run does count against the hitter. They are practically equivalents in terms of outcome, why are they treated differently?
