Different types of scoring methods

In Baseball Scorekeeping, how many main types of score keeping methods are there? The ones I heard of are the Standard one, Reniser and Waseda methods.

I'm having trouble understanding LOB and researching it isn't making it any clearer.

So the way I understand it, there is both an individual LOB and a team LOB, which are calculated differently. A batter gets a LOB for every runner on base when they record an out. But team LOB is only recorded when the third out is recorded. Is that correct?

If so, this seems nonsensical to me. Adding up the individual LOB totals won't give you the "correct" team LOB total. I think it makes more sense to just have one stat- just add up all the batters LOB totals to get team LOB. Especially since the team LOB stat doesn't reflect how many times batters recorded an out with runners on base, it only records when the last hitter of the inning left runners on base.

September 1, 2001 Cleveland @ Chicago White Sox-an oddity

So as I am going through all of my old stadium bought scorecards, I ran across this situation.

Bill Pulsipher was brought into the game to start the 8th inning, to face HoF’er Jim Thome. Thome reaches on an error by Josè Valentin and Pulsipher is promptly pulled. I know this isn’t the strangest thing ever, but I believe it is the only time I have scored a game where a pitcher faved a batter but had nothing on his final line.

Alan Embree also faced only one batter, who was Jim Thome in the 6th, but he walked Big Jim before getting pulled. It looks a bit odd in the final scoring for Pulsipher, but this does reinforce for me how much I like the 3 batter rule for relievers.

Also, does anyone else use dashes rather than zeroes for the pitching statistics?

Newbie Wanting to Start, Paper or Digital?

Hey everyone! I want to try scoring and I have never done it. Would you recommend starting with paper or digital? And which is the best paper or app to start with? Thanks!

Blue Jays at Mariners 7/3/26

US men's national soccer team came out for the first pitch

JP Crawford's 1,001st game

Randy Arozarena lost both of the Mariners' ABS in the first inning, at the same AB

My first scorecard from Padres vs Dodgers on 7/3/26 :)

>!Dodgers didn't get a man on base until the 4th inning, but then in the 7th, they loaded the bases and got a game-winning grand slam.!<I'm a bit confused on where I should write the pitchers and when they switch out.
Still pretty happy for my first scorecard at my first dodger game. :)

Best Broadcasts/Announcers For Scorekeepers

Do any of you who score a lot of games from home get frustrated by the broadcast or announcers who seem to not be geared towards actually informing the viewer what is going on in the game? I

I only get to the ballpark once or twice a year, so I do most of my scoring from my living room while watching on TV. In the "old days" I remember local and national announcers routinely saying, "For those of you scoring at home, that was a single and the runner advanced to third on the error in right-field..." However, modern broadcasts seem intent on keeping everyone entertained between pitches with banter between the play-by-play announcer and the analyst. I know attention spans are dreadfully short these days, but as a longtime watcher/scorekeeper of games I find the modern broadcasts proceed as if the game itself just is not enough to keep eyeballs on the screen. (Hence, the pointless blabber of on the field/in the dugout interviews taking place during at-bats and balls in play)

I mostly watch the Tigers and I have found that their TV broadcast and announcers are not helpful to "those scoring at home." Last year I sat through two innings of a game where Jason Benetti and Andy Dirks interviewed J.K. Simmons. Also, batted balls that could have been scored a hit or an error go by without Benetti ever announcing what the official ruling was.

Another pet peeve is beginning an inning without announcing players changing fielding positions because announcers get distracted by whatever whims the producer/director of the broadcast dream up. During the sixth inning of last night's game in Texas, reporter Daniella Bruce entered the booth right out of commercial. She was holding giant cardboard cowboy hat full of "rally nachos." She and Jason Benetti and Dan Petry talked through Nicky Lopez at-bat about the nachos, and what Bruce went through to get the nachos, and she was going to take the nachos over to the radio booth. Benetti finally announced that Beau Brieske had entered the game to pitch. Then after Lopez grounded out, they continued to talk about the nachos. The scoring "widget" or whatever they call it, on the screen showed that Justin Foscue was coming up for his fourth at bat. The first pitch was then belted for a home run which forced Benetti to stop yapping about the nachos and as what we thought was Foscue rounded first Benetti says, "Josh Smith, pinch-hitting, homers to right." And he never mentioned at any point that Ben Malgeri, who had pinch-hit in the top of the sixth, had stayed in to play center-field. I ASSUMED he had, but he never confirmed it.

I did notice last night that when a pitching change is occurring that they do now tell you who is coming in from the bullpen and put his name on the screen right before they drop out for commercial, which is nice.

I do watch a lot of Mets games too and they are really on top of keeping up with the action on the field, scoring rulings, and lineup/fielder changes so i enjoy scoring Mets games. Do any of you see this problem with your local team or is this just me, the angry old man, yelling at a cloud?

Defensive indifference question

I thought defensive indifference was when a runner advances in the middle of a plate appearance without any action from the catcher or the pitcher.

If I'm correct, can someone explain how Tatis Jr. was credited with a stolen base in the 2nd inning of the July 2nd game?

Mid season pick up just in time for the holiday weekend

I have loved my #22 but of course couldn’t stop at just one book and wanted to get something smaller for in person games and when I have some time to kill at work. Can’t wait to break it in over the weekend

Fake Baseball League!

First up, what is r/fakebaseball a.k.a MLR?

It’s essentially a number guessing game - the pitcher submits a number between 1 & 1000 in secret and the hitter tries to guess a number as close as possible to the pitcher. The result of each At Bat is entirely dependent on the difference between the pitcher’s number and the hitter’s number and we add in a little extra flavor by allowing players to choose ‘builds’ that can change the outcome slightly. The numbers ‘wraparound’ - a pitch of 1 and a swing of 1000 will lead to a difference of 1. Games are played out over a 10 day period and our season runs for 16 regular games and 4 rounds of playoffs before the Paper Cup
Champion is named. Each season lasts approx. 9 months.

But it isn’t just guesswork…

Our community of 700+ people is headed into its 13th season and we’ve got people from all over the world and from all walks of life.

So what’s next?

The subreddit r/fakebaseball is where our games are played, feel free to browse through the threads and get a handle on the format. We’ve got a pretty nifty bot that handles most of the legwork. We're currently in the last session of Season 12 before the playoffs, which also includes a Summer Sadness tournament for those teams that didn't make the playoffs.

Most of the community can be found in our discord servers: we have one for Fake College Baseball which is where you’ll be headed for now, and we have one for Major League Redditball which you’ll gain access to a little further down the line. Each team also has their own 'Clubhouse' server so you can vibe with your teammates in private.

If you're ready to get going, go ahead and click on the link below and get your college ball career started!

Reds Scorecards Early Aughts

Unearthed a trove of scorecards from a particularly abysmal era of Reds baseball. Some of them are unfinished so it looks like I have a fun weekend ahead of me filling them in.
